I mean, I imagine having half his body obliterated by a Melta bomb went someway towards that too...

I thought his wounds were caused by the ghost razors being shot and exploding?

No, I'm pretty sure he was blown up by a Melta bomb during the Badab War.

They enslave daemons to their cause, and drive them into battle to be cannon fodder (rather than worshiping them and putting them on social standing equal to or above the battle brothers).

Their base of operations is on a Space Hulk.

Loving the paint job on that, is it yours?

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

#1 Sons of Malice - They're the warband that got me interested in Chaos in the first place (and as a result, Malal/Malice is my favorite god). Also, fava beans and a nice chianti
#2 Crimson Slaughter - combination of being pretty cool, a tragic fall and just because of how much has been fleshed out about them
#3 The Bloodborn - Semi-Legion, Semi-non-legion. Led by Honsou. need I say more?

Absolutely with #3 for The Bloodborn. They have such an eclectic and mercenary feel to them. Plus, a handful of novels now for their fluff.

I've actually been modeling and switching my CSM to take after their theme; Iron Warrior heavy support and warpsmith lord (terrible HQ choice gameplay wise...), with a compliment of Berserkers and human auxiliaries.

A Huron Blackheart count as might be fitting for Honsou. It's an idea I've considered with the tyrant's claw counting as Honsou's metal arm.

That's... actually a great idea. It would be nice to have reliable warlord traits for a change, with a badass HQ.

Going to proxy Huron for a game to try this out, thanks for the tip!

Officially? I'd have to say one of the Khorne daemonkin war bands, I was reading up on some leaked material, and The harvest sound like the most BA Khorne worshippers ever. Here's a link to the page, it's the first picture you see after a short scroll:
