The servitor cherubs are pretty disturbing.

But I have always thought one of the better things to come out of 40k in line with the horror genre is the Tyrant Star (okay, okay, it may be a product of Fantasy Flight Games but it's in their Dark Heresy RPG books).

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Halo Devices. Who made them, and why have your immortality device turn you into a ravenous monster?

The Setekh, and the idea that other constructs like it could floating about in space...

The thing about 40k is that no one person can grasp the fullness of it.

Two things. The Halo device. Essentially you are immortal, but it'll slowly slowly turn you insane, and you'll end up falling to chaos eventually.

The second. The Warp. Just the nature of it, the chaos and discord it causes. It can kill, it can drive you insane....and yet is the lifeblood of most of the 40K universe.

I'd say the scariest/creepiest thing in 40k is some of the people who play it.

I gotta go with the Penitent Engine....the concept of it is creepy and the execution is even a bit more horrific...

The 40K setting has always been freaky, in a darkly humorous way.

As someone has said, it's a universe in which the equivalent of Stalin's Russia is considered the "good guys".

I'm both orderly and rational. I value control, information, and order. I love structure and hierarchy, and will actively use whatever power or knowledge I have to maintain it. At best, I am lawful and insightful; at worst, I am bureaucratic and tyrannical.

I find passive aggressive messages in people's signatures quite amusing.

I always figured there were no real good guys, especially within the realms of the Humanity. I mean from one perspective the Eldar or the Tau could be considered fairly "good" but the Imperium is a pretty twisted place, and grim dark only really just scratches the surface of it. Some of it is pretty horrific.

No seriously though, Enslavers were creepy if I recall.

The Dark Eldar for sure. Particularly the Haemonculus Covens. e.g. they turn people they don't like into horrible malformed drug-pumped creatures. Then there's the guys themselves- they modify themselves to the point where even Hollywood celebs would consider it massively over the top.
