the_kraken wrote:Okay, so that Epic Roster site is pretty sweet, thanks for the link. I've actually been doing some additional list work (adding equipment and so on), the lists I'd posted were before I had done so.
That being said, I'm definitely leaning towards an
FE army. Any recommendations?

Also, anyone care to explain Battle Forged vs Unbound. Pros and cons of each? Most of the information I find is pretty vague.
Battleforged is the way you used to build lists, with a twist: you don't have a
FoC, you have Detachments. Just like that
modular cellphone, you can build it any way you want - or, in
40k terms, with any kind of Detachment youn want.
Regarding detachments, there are 3 kinds of those:
- Combined Arms Detachment. It's the closest to the old
FoC, you need 1
HQ and 2 Troops minimun to field one.
- Allied Detachment. Like the old Allied
FoC, with a limitation: you cannot field Allied Detachment with units from the same Faction from your Primary Detachment (which is generally a Combined Arms Detachment or a Formation).
- Formation Detachment: closed group of units, generally receiving a special bonus. You can find those in 7th codexes, dataslates and Warzones books (the latter are limited to Apocalypse, though).
So, an example of what you can do:
CAD - Tau Empire (primary detachment, because has your Warlord)
CAD - Farsight Enclaves
Allied - Eldar
Formation - Firebase Support Cadre (Tau)
What you cannot do:
CAD - Tau Empire
Allied - Tau Empire or Farsight Enclaves (same faction)
Albeit Farsight Enclaves has a rule saying it can be allied with Tau Empire, it was designed for 6th rules, where supplements had to have specific alliance permission (Iyanden couoldn't ally with Eldar back then). In 7th, you cannot have an Allied Detach and a
CAD from the same Faction. I'd talk with your friends what they think of that.
Battleforged has special bonuses: if you use a
CAD from 7th rulebook, your Warlord will be able to re-roll his warlord trait and your Troops will have a special rule called Objective Secured (they have preference over non-Objective Secured units regarding taking an objective). Allied Detachments have this second rule as well.
The 7th codexes brought new 'CADs', like
DE Realspace Raiders or Necrons Decurion. They have different bonuses and
FoC than a normal
CAD.
Unbound allows for a different kind of list building: you can put anything you want. Want to field Flyrants, Bloodthirsters and Venoms in the same list, without caring about
Hq, Troops,
FoC, etc? That's your answer. unbound has absolutely no benefit over battleforged, aside letting you pick whatever you want. One faction will still be your 'Primary detachment', as a model of it will be your warlord. And you can grab Formations as well.
generally, Battleforged is the way people usually play, while unbound is used more as a fun mode.
