There's a few examples of dark eldar eating raw flesh. I'd assume it's not always cut from dead things. I'd also expect the Emperor's Children to eat only the finest things they can get their hands on. Nutrient paste is definitely a thing, though you can get raw meat from agri worlds.

Do any other race besides IoM have famous alchoholic beverages? For example, the SW have their Mjod/fenrisian ale which is strong enough to get a space marine tipsy. I can't really see the orks having their own beverages, instead just raiding anything they find from other factions, if orks are even interested in alchohol (I'm assuming so, but I don't know for a fact)

Ah, appetizing. I'll take a large glass of that, please. So, is that derived of squigs, or like dead orks or something? I can see the orks not really caring which of those it came from, so maybe all of the above?

Yeah, one of my favorite factions, well thanks for the answers, but some sleep would do me good right about now, so I will have to come back to this at a later time.

Squigs also grow from ork spores that get too much sun.

Well, considering they are all a kind of fungus, it is probably not too different from eating mushrooms

Also, Space Marines eat their own crap.

I believe it comes from one of the BL books about Uriel Ventris, by Graham McNeill.

there are a few other sources. basicly power armor takes your waste and recycles it into nutrients.

basicly you pee into a bottle and the bottle removes the abd icky stuff and takes the water.

Yup, orks were designed to be fully independent. So even if the spores landed on a totally desolate and lifeless rock they could survive. The fungus forms the basis of a food chain. Squigs eat the fungus, orks eat the squigs and the fungus, and life goes on.

According to Forge of Mars, the Ark Mechanicae are supplied this way as well.

that's amusing considering how part of the plot of siege of castellax was a rebellion from the peons when they discovered that their evil heartless Iron warriors overlords where feeding them the dead, but the 40k RPGs even have a common ration called corpse starch. they're never clear on what it REALLY is
