@Eilif - That model is gorgeous. Ramshackle also do that (totally not drop pod) tunelling machine. If you were to run Squats as S.M, that would fit in perfectly
Yeah I had a look at those, I kind of like the idea of converting some of these dudes into Squat equivilants of Scions...

Irondrakes would make a nice conversion agreed . Here's what you need to do -
1) Get loads of money from somewhere (rob a bank, sell your organs etc.)
2) Buy Ramshackles land train and a few of their tunelling machines.
3) Browse Scibors website and weep at the beauty and cost
4) Rob another bank and buy all their Space Dwarf goodness
5) Laugh at the people who dare stand in front of your angry height-impaired force.
FYI, the mantic Forgefathers cannons make great attack bikes. A friend also uses them for his techmarines

I usually used my squats as IG. I liked the idea of a whole abhuman force with lots of Ogryns and some Ratlings. Every once in a while I would field them as Space Wolves. I even picked up some exo armoured ones for Wolf Guard, but never got around to converting them.

Could we please stop with all this squat nonsense?
They've been removed for a very good reason. Happy go lucky biker dwarves do not fit the grimdarkness of the far future.
Squats are the worst idea GW ever had.
Their models were ugly as sin.
Their fluff so pants on head idiotic that the only black library author ever to touch them with a 100 foot pole was C.S. "I DO COCAIIINE!" Goto.
Just - stop - now!
As someone who played tau and gk before it was cool I feel entitled to my perfectly valid and logical point of view. :p

You're belief in the integrity of the 40k universe is touching (misguided, but touching). The truth, young padawan is that anything can fit the grim-darkness of the far future if GW decides it might increase market share.
-Terminator robots didn't fit…until they did.
-Blue headed aliens in Anime Robosuits and their carnivorous space chicken friends didn't fit the far future…. Until they did.

Really, Uglier and a worse idea than this?

Their fluff was not impressive, but certainly no less ridiculous than most of the rest of the RT era fluff. Remember, this was the era when every faction had access to shuriken catapaults, beastmen marched to war with the imperial guard and of course the Deoderant bottle tank!
Not asking you to refrain from your point of view, just use a little perspective. When viewed in the context of RT 40k or even 2nd edition 40k, the Squats are no more or less ridiculous, odd looking or out-of-place than any other faction. If they had been kept in and gotten the same overhaul as every other race, they'd be no more unusual than Tau or Necrons.

I've come up with the plan of using them as Inquisitorial acolytes now. Give them all Stormbolters and chain swords, and have a mad little cadre of mental dwarves as bodyguards for some tricked out Inquisitor.

The 30k/HH era militia & cults list is a perfect fit for representing squats. Take Survivors of a Dark Age and Abhuman Helots provenances and you have power-armoured T4 guardsmen that can upgrade to S5 las weaponry and get Land Raiders/Rhinos as dedicated transports. The only downside is that your opponent has to be ok with playing against a HH list, but since you'd otherwise be fielding a full counts-as army you're likely to only play good sports anyway.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this--and apologies if they have--there is always the rumor of the demiurge being the 'new' squats. I know in the old BFG stuff the demiurge did a lot of trading and worked with the Tau...who knows maybe they will make an appearance as models in a Tau armor--for support etc... Automatically Appended Next Post: --Correcting typo--that was army and not armor.

I think that Orks were made too sympathetic with Waaagh the Orks and thus encroached on the Squat territory. In base RT they were more like Tolkien's Orcs.

I'd say GW would not want to support a new range... but they did just upgraded many of their older ranges, so... yeah, I can see maybe Squats will make a comeback. On the other hand, it's probably best to use veteran guardsmen rules and tac marine ruels for Squat Infantries. May have to use Forgeworld vehicles like Hades Breaching Drill and Crassus rules for their vehicles. I'd say, for now, use Baneblade rules for the humongous train-thing they got, since it's got Cannons! and go find yourself some nice looking (a hopefully cheap) models for proxy. P.S: the TsundereThunderer Siege Tank maybe a good place to start. It's got Baneblade-level front armor and a Demolisher canon, and then you can chain a bunch of chimera's or hydras at the back and call it a train.
