That's because it's PETA. They don't care about animal rights, they care about getting lots of attention. They've just figured out that big dramatic protests over "animal rights" are a good way to get attention.
Agreed. A high amount of my animal money goes to the HSPCA. Our local chapter is very effective and run by some very nice, dedicated, and caring people. The rest we give to cat and dog rescue ventures (basically volunteers that run sweeps of kill shelters, foster those animals they save, and pay to ferry them - sometimes in long chains of relay travel across country! - and find them adoptive homes). Our pup was a rescue saved by such a venture, and our cat is a rescue abandoned barn cat.

They're pretty much like our second and third kid.
