Perhaps Tau Jetbikes making use of short-ranged Pulse Weapon "Lances"?

The thing about 40k is that no one person can grasp the fullness of it.

Some cool idea here definitely. I like not having an offensive cc unit but defensive.

Something with only say 1 or 2 attacks. Maybe some sort of cc invuln save. And 2 flamers that can both be fired in overwatch...that would do it.

A Battlesuit with:

-Two Onager Gauntlet-esque weapons (Melee, S5, AP 4, Unwieldy)

-Counter-Attack, Supporting Fire, Extremely Bulky

-May take 2 of the following: Stimulant Injector, Shield Generator, Positional Relay.

Meant strictly to hold the line against some dumb Gue'la charging your squishy Fire Warriors, of course. You don't really need good depth perception to merely bludgeon back those charging your lines, do you?

Cant they just pay 1pts to add a bayonet onto their guns? pay 3pts to make it into a tiny light saber bayonet.

Three options make sense to me. One is to come up with some intelligent race or perhaps animal from some world the Tau have conquered which breeds very rapidly and basically can be sacrificed as cannon fodder and used as a tie up unit.

Another is crisis suits with shields as in the OP. Give it twin flamers to do damage when assault units approach, make it hardy and allow it to disengage from cc.

Third is drones basically doing much of what the crisis suits described above do. The post earlier about drones seems too much to me.

I don't think the Tau CC unit should be able to inflict much damage in cc. Ha ha we can shoot you to pieces and if you dare assault to try to shut down the incoming fire we will tear you up there too. Nope. Tie up unit in some form that still can't inflict much damage is the way to go.

Vespid could be a very good CC unit, if they were given the right weapons. Very high base I, T4, and very mobile.

For a more defensive, I would do dermiug, which, from the way they are described, would be a lot like BS/WS3 meqs, with short ranged ion weaponry.
