It's the 40mm Tiriel from Hasslefree miniatures.

It's far better than the actual Ciaphas Cain Chimpface mini that's for sure.
For a Cain fix I have trouble picking between that one and this one.

It even looks goofy comparing it to 80s minis... Nevermind the amount of dread the character is supposed to embody!

Here is my favorite. When I saw this model I knew I had to have it and whatever faction it was for.
This is Iron Mother Diretrix from Convergence of Cyriss in Warmachine. Hands down my favorite mini of all time. When I gave up 40k and was looking for a new game. I knew my search was over when I saw this.

Also, check out my history blog: Minimum Wage Historian, a fun place to check out history that often falls between the couch cushions.

This thing. When I saw the advert in White Dwarf, i knew I had to have it. Perhaps it doesn't stand up to more more modern figures technically, but the impression of movement and sense of threat it conveys in person was so far ahead of anything else at the time and even now is still palpable. An incredible figure.

I can get behind that! Tom Meier piece, is it?

Minis in general have come on in the last couple of decades, but there were creature sculptors back in the eighties, like - as I say - John Dennett and Julie Guthrie, along with Nick Bibby, Dennis Mize and others, who could put a degree of life and naturalism into their monsters that few have matched ever since. (Heck, look at what Nick Bibby does these days) Lately it seems to be mostly about how big you can sculpt the teeth and scales, and sheer amount of detail is all; never mind how awkward they or the pose, balance/weight/gravity, jarring human musculature, rubbery skin wrinkles etc. etc. look.

I don't know if I'd personally put Tom Meier among my list of best creature sculptors - there are little niggles in some of his sculpts over the years, particularly in his GoT dire wolves for Dark Sword, that suggest he doesn't really 'get' animals and things. He's far from the worst, though, and certainly deserves his legendary reputation for humans.

Speaking of Tom Meier, Dark Sword, and GoT, that reminds me of something else for this topic: The Mountain That Rides...

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

I came across this beauty recently and felt inspired.

I would love to do Tim Burton inspired Harlequins based off this guy.
