Chaos has a whole bunch of pinning weapons, people just don't field them for some reason.

Fear won me the game once.
Given it was tau VS necrons, but still, it comes up. (yep, the riptide's fear turned a sure defeat into a grand victory)

As for having pinning, every exploading transport does that to whoever was inside.
Also I know my gun drones do that, and its also common in barrage weapons.

They should really give it to heavy bolters.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Is it still common in barrage now that barrage lost that effect and you actually need the pinning rule for that?

From my memory, its a common combo.
Not an absolute one, but the two often come on the same guns.

Naturally, I could be wrong.

I nominally play daemons, tyranids and mech/jetbike Eldar.

So when I see pinning weapons I basically just laugh.

I'm rolling two groups of Genestealers each with a broodlord. Since they can't charge on the first turnf rom infiltration, casting 'The Horror' and making them take pinning tests at -2 LD is very effective at buying my infiltrators (lictors, genies, etc) time to survive while giving the rest of my horde a round to move up. I'll soon be adding more Lictors and a third broodlord + genies to push it a bit a really take advantage of pinning.

unfortunately, my last game was against Dark elder.. lots of mech and some fearless.

I would like to see the Pinning Special Rule become more common place myself, it is a good way to represent 'Suppressive Fire' which has to be one of the most obvious tactic in the book. Any weapon capable of high rages of fire, say 3 or more Shots, would be a good candidate for this Special Rule. Not saying they all should get it, but consideration should be given to any weapon with such a high rate of fire. Personally, I find it both hilarious and ridiculous that a single volley from a lone Pulse Carbine can force an entire Unit to kiss the ground, without being ordered to, but the same Unit has no problem mooning a Punisher Gatling Cannon putting out ten times as many shots!

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.
