CBS may not have 100% rights to this, Bethesda Softworks may have joint creative rights, i'm no expert just my guess.
This is a big part of the whole thing. Even if CBS gives permission WK then has to paymfor that license and then each license after that. Each license they have to buy increases production costs an in turn the cost of the final product. I'm ok with the Thunderchild not having a rear arc if it means I don't have to pay $25 for an expansion
Just think of how many ST video games and random books there are? If WK licensed them all so we could have our ideal version of relatively obscure ships we would be paying a fortune for packs.

I'm not so sure you'd have to license from Bethesda just to give your ship a rear firing arc, it's painfully obvious on the tv show that it's a torpedo pod that fires 360. (And yes, in FC it was turning as it was firing (turning into the direction of the torpedoes it was firing)
I've attached a pic of a Saber firing to aft with it's Dorsal weapons array.
I've attached another pic of an Akira firing a torpedo aft on screen, it's barely noticeable, but there is a torpedo flash and explosion for like half a second. and it fired from rear. There! PROOF!

Even with my spectacles it looks like the JFK Zapruder film. The Yeager shot looks possible, but in game that could be Dorsal Weapons Array though out of Faction. There are so many ships that with the Akira shot it doesn't look like it came from that ship but one of the ones just off camera.
What would have made eveyone happy and been within reason would have been to make the Thunderchilds ability to fire torpedoes in any direction.
I mean COME ON! The designers clearly want torpedoes to be a thing. We get the Enterprise D, Voyager, THE BORG, throwing dice in any direction is it too hard to make a solid torpedo boat. Hell with that ability they could have saved points given the thing 3 attack and I'd be ok with it.
Alas, ok rant contained.

That torpedo flash is traveling away from the akira and flashes on a target behind it, you can barely see it in the scene, but it comes from the akira, the flash doesn't pass by the akira, it generates it.

Fair enough. Maybe if we email the screen shot to WORF they will errata the Akira , but lets not hold our breath.
