I'm curious - have you gotten into the Mantic forums and voiced your concerns there? Since this is a beta list, and still in development, discussing what you think should be included in the lists and convincing the Rules Committee to makes changes are still possible. New changes were just made yesterday - the Lekelidon now has melee attacks, another Monster - the Fire Drake - has been added, and the Ghekkotah hunters now have bows. Oh - and I would be in for Lizardmen just for Saurus hordes. But then again, I'm the guy who liked running Conquistadors vs Aztecs/Incans in Total War: Medieval 2

I have been to the mantic forums actually and voicing some of my thoughts. Nice to hear some things have been addressed actually and Ill need to take a look at the fire drake when I get off work.
Gekko hunters getting bows is a mixed bag, if the horde block got them that would bump their usefullness up a lot in my eyes but hey small victories.
Lol ok so yeah I can see that. But really why bother with saurus then? Might as well feild a aztec themed kingdom of men without cavalry.

Are they the official Salamanders? They look very nice.

Yes they are. They're for the Force of Nature list, but they're also for the new list.
Mantic has stated that they will make models for the new lists at some point.

Man they are pretty neat. Is there a place that has a summery of all these model plans? I have seen some cool Ogre braves and now these but with little or no reference to when they will be available or anything.

I don't know when they'll go up for retail (in the next couple of weeks when they've broken the back of KS shipments maybe?), but KS backers are getting their Ogre Braves right now - mine arrived last night!
The metal casting on all the models I received was nice and crisp (which at least for me was nice to see as I've picked up a few of their older sculpts recently and mould wear is evident). I don't think the photos quite capture how beefy the Braves actually are.

I've not compared them side-by-side yet but they look wider and taller than the normal ogres.

I'm hoping you mean the ogre braves and not those salamanders...
I'm liking the new version of the salamanders list, mind. Once I'd had the lightbulb moment that I wasn't looking at a list for lizardmen players who wanted to play KoW and was now looking at a proper thematic salamander list. Fire-breathing dinosaurs FTW.

After taking another look last night and writing up a list I'd actually want I'm starting to see its plenty possible to just focus on big and stompy.
The lekeliodon getting a melee is nice, and the firedrake certianly feels fun. The firedrake defintely seems to fill the standin for a troglodon, so bonus points to Mantic there.
I'm not gonna jump right into building my army just yet till the list is finalized though. Already got a bite of dissapointment when it was pointed out Skyraiders are actually troops. :/
Here's hoping the next update doesn't ruin my plan to shake the ground with Rhinosaur cavalry.

Seems unlikely. Skyraiders are irregular because flying units can be horribly broken if spammed. Thats why most flyers with any sort of combat potential tend to be irregular, makes it fra more difficult to reach that threshold.

Yes but the universe has this nasty habit of pissing in my cornflakes.
On topic, I'm actually torn in my daydreaming bout taking either the firedrake or the anklyo.
Tenative list is Rhinosaur Cav horde x2, Skyraider regiment x4, Battlecaptian on Rhinosaur, which should leave enough room for Firedrake or the Anklo ina 1500pt list. Thoughts?

Really like the look of those salamanders.
I'm glad that the army is developing into its own thing; I'm glad that I can use my lizardmen, but I don't want an exact copy of the warhammer stuff.

I do somewhat agree. Some things are missing and the RC seem a bit schizophrenic at times, copying some very distinctive GW concepts wholesale (like the Doomwheel) at times, and at other times, digging their heels in, chanting "this isn't a GW proxy list" and insisting that some units get left out (like shooty Rat Ogres) - even units that are a lot more generic than some that were copied directly.
