I can't stand the new Scion fluff. They used to be good ol stormtroopers. Originally simply special forces with better armour. By 5th rich orphans brainwashed, now extremely more radicalised.

I just pretend mine are Grenadiers, which should be common enough. I always wish they had made Roskan models, their Grenadiers look amazing!!!

Oh, boy, yet more Kasrkin errors.

Sorry, mate, but the Stormtroopers have always been Progena. Originally, there was one Stormtrooper regiment, who took the fightiest graduates of the Schola Progenium (The faithful males went to the Commissariat, the faithful females to the Sororitas, the best fighters to the Stormtroopers and everyone else to the Administratum). Most Stormtrooper units got sent to work with the Guard, while the best of those ended up on call for the Inquisition.

Then came the Eye of Terror campaign and GW released some shiny new Kasrkin models. Kasrkin were a Cadian unique unit of special forces who filled a similar battlefield role to the Stormtroopers. At the end of the Eye of Terror campaign, they decided to rebrand the Kasrkin models as Stormtroopers - the actual Stormtrooper models hadn't been in production for several years... and now everyone seems to think that Stormtroopers are Kasrkin.

Never said they didn't go to Progena, but the extent of religious indoctrination and recruitment method seems changed.

I have both 3rd edition guard codexes right in front of me, only the 3rd ed 2nd version has any reference to Schola Progenium. Even then the only references made is additional special training or equipment. No orphans, no additional indoctrination over normal troopers, defiantly not to the extent suggested in later editions. I will need to have a look at the 2nd edition dex, but going from memory it was a lone Stormtrooper regiment, sent out among others.

You also could actually get the old stormtroopers on the GW site from as late as 2009. I personally remember them being in the last paper catalogue we brought, but I could only find one from 2001.

The new fluff about the Scions coming from the Schola Progenium is not new fluff at all. The Stormtrooper Regiment has always had that origin. They come from the same place Commissars and Sisters of Battle receive their initial education.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

The Schola Progenium is an orphanage run by the church. You don't "Go to Progena", you are raised and educated there from the time your parents die to the time you are recruited for another service - usually somewhere between twelve and eighteen years of age.

That's the nature of the Schola Progenium.

^ That.

It's not a public high school, it's an institution of education run by an extremely militant church.
