Grav/plas seems to be the best way so far.

Except it's damn near impossible to get those weapon in range against a good Tau player. 60" >>>>> 24" or 18"

In my few victories against Tau, I mostly bent over and took it from the Riptides. Real fun games, let me tell you.

Ork solution: just assault it with power klaws Killed one over the weekend by assaulting it with unit of boyz. Tau player made a mistake and moved it to far away from get supporting fire.

My Riptides tend to die in one of two ways.

Against my Eldar playing friend, for whatever reason my Nova Engine starts leaking left and right, Ion Accelerators start getting hot, and I tend to do more damage to myself than he does, before he gets lucky and takes it down.

My one Space Marine friend likes to drop pod near it, and assault it, getting into hand to hand combat and just pummel the poor Riptide with krak grenades. Sure, one or two grenades by itself aren't that devastating, but that 6th or 7th one in the combat phase, that will get you.

If you have multiple fast assault units it's not impossible to corral the Riptide near a squishier unit and multi assault the whole lot. There are few things more satisfying to me than killing a handful of Fire Warriors or a couple suits and proceeding to sweep a Riptide off the table.

This isn't too encouraging, I have a few 1000pt games with a tau player coming up and he'll almost definitely have a very competitive list with a riptide. I've got a coven list and was considering just trying to ID it into the ground but I didn't want to waste my grots or dark artisan units to it when they could do a lot more damage elsewhere.

Now I'm thinking just hold it with a few squads of wracks and focus on the rest of his list. Not worth the trouble.
