But what does the Gretchin add there? The Trukk is already an Obsec unit.

Ever tried to spread out a truck over an area, gone to ground with a trukk in terrain, hid one behind a wall or split one in two.
Believe me grots have their uses. If you don't see the usage of denied areas (and not just objectives) with units you have never properly played a horde army.

I do, but then what does the Trukk add? They can only pile out if its moved 6", would t you deny a larger area by having the gretchins and Trukk separate? It'd be more durable too as blowing up a Trukk with gretchins on board you have a 75% or better chance of whacking the gretchins too.

I use them all the time I usually just have gretchins running area denial or static objective sitting and the trukks objective running.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Actually that's a pretty hilarious idea/tactic. If your opponent is shooting at your Grots in a Trukk, that's fewer shots at your other units. Go ahead, use your AP2/1 weapons to pop a Trukk of Gretchin and not the Trukks of Boyz/MANZ/Tankbustas/etc. If the Trukk doesn't get popped, you can use it as a mobile shooting platform for the Grots (BS3!). It might not be the best use of points, and not really applicable within the discussion of starting out with Orks, but then again it could be fun.

I actually use a tactic like this. Trukks carrying units that must get across the table carry big shootas while redundant trukks with cheap boyz carry rokkit launchas. Single shot rokkit launchas at BS2 are not scary, but are enough of a distraction that your opponent will often waste firepower popping these trukks over your big shoota trukks, allowing your units to reach combat. If your opponent ignores the rokkit trukks, you still have a bunch of rokkits that you can shoot at your enemy, with the obligatory "I actually did something!?" dance anytime they cause a wound.

Still waiting for Godot.
