I always buy when I play, but it is sometimes just soda and water. Maybe a paint. Most of my purchases are planned ahead of time. If I happen to be there already and playing, I'll buy. But I never feel it's required.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I usually at least need a paint or wash pot.

And then, like yesterday, I need $200 in various models/stuff.

I used to feel exactly the way the OP does and would make a purchase every time I went in the store but my flgs doesn't offer any discounts at all and then there is sales tax to boot so it's hard to compete with online retail. They reall don't even try. There is no loyalty or rewards program so I eventually stopped since I could no longer afford it. Plus I don't play many pick up games there. I usually only participate in events or campaigns which I have to pay an entry fee for and occasionally even buy a box as se times that's required for participation. I can honestly say that I started out super loyal to them but over time I just didn't feel appreciated as a customer due to the lack of buying incentives. Plus, on like my second visit, (when I was still making regular large purchases there) one of the regulars came up to me and gave me a speech about how I should buy from the store and not in eBay or online. She basically insinuated that I wouldn't be allowed to play or at least looked on approvingly if I did but I soon disregarded that after making constant large purchases and finding that the events were always designed to favor the small group o people who basically live at the store. It has since gotten better but since I still pay to participate and only really play there for those events, I find that I really only buy things like paint and WDs there. The online prices are just too good when my budget is taken into account

You can always try and level with the store owner or manager. If I am ever wanting to buy something expensive, I'll see what it can be had for on ebay. I'll then call the store owner, and tell him what I want and what I can get it for online, and at least give him a chance to come close. If he can get within ~10 bucks of the price online, I'll stick with the flgs because that 10 bucks can be written off to shipping and handling, and the lack of helping out a local business.

Of course, if the people at the store really are as rude as you say, you might not want to do do business with them in this manner.

Fortunately, my store runs a program where they frequently text out 10-15% off offers, buy 1/get 1 half-off offers, etc...deals to lure you into the store. And once I've made the 30 minute trip tot the store, chances are I will make a purchase of some kind, even if its just paint pots.

Not even close to every time.

At my local GW? Nope. Not even close.

At my local wargaming store? I don't usually go there unless I have something in mind to buy, but still probably less than 25% of the time will I actually buy something.

My local hobby store? Almost every time I'm there I buy something.

I don't buy something every time I go to my FLGS, but if I'm playing I'll usually buy a snack or drink. However, I buy or order all my models from my FLGS, as well as paints (brushes and other hobby supplies I get elsewhere). The way I see it, I'm supporting the store that lets me use their playing space and considers me a valued customer.

I buy food or drink there pretty much every time I stick around for a game. If I am not there for gaming I am usually there to pick something up. So I will almost always spend money in there but not always buy miniatures stuff.

I generally buy something when I go to mine, there's always something I need. On the odd time I don't, I'll often pick up a costa coffee for whoever is there on my way in. I probably wouldn't do that if I hadn't worked with them though.

I usually end up spending about a dollar or two on water and a snack or a soda throughout the day when I head to my LGS, sometimes I will buy stuff from them when I have the money. If it's not really a huge loss to buy from them instead of online/discounters then yeah I'll bite the extra 10 bucks or so to support them because I know they need it. My relatively small city isn't the richest place and I know small business tend to struggle here, just want to make sure they stick around so I have a place to play other than the very small GW store. It's worth it because the GW not only just has two tables but terrible hours and strict no-cursing rule. Sorry but I would kind of like to do as I please when playing with other adults, not be treated like some high schooler. "Okay kiddies I gotta go to lunch for 30 mins so its time to take a break!" Ugh so annoying, its not their fault but rather GW's for taking that one man store model where they have to shut the place down so the employee can take their lunch.

Not every time I go like others have said, but I usually do my purchases through them rather then the GW website. They don't offer a discount and I have to get the 5% sales tax added in, but it's a small price to pay to support the store. Pre-orders are a popular thing and they always have then on release day for anyone that pre-ordered it through them. They rarely put orders on the shelves and seem to hold them indefinitely too, which is nice.

I rely on pick up games at my flgs. I only buy from them unless its something they don't carry. But I buy when I need something.

When Warhammer World was my regular gaming spot I'd normally get at least a drink or two.

Probably spent more money on their delicious large coffee and cake deal than I did on miniatures. Sooo tasty!

The game spot I've most recently attended is a basement club, so no shop there.

There is a game shop fairly close to where I live, I occasionally pop in for paint, but I haven't actually had any games there (yet).

I'm not going to buy random stuff I don't want just to satisfy some "one game = one purchase" rule.

+1.

I buy stuff at my FLGS when I need it. As simple as that.

I don't play at my local store, but I try to do most of my purchases there. Getting a 10% discount always helps.

I don't buy snacks at the gaming club, cause I don't really like eating while gaming.

Our store gives lifetime loyalty discounts based on money spent so they keep track. Not counting the soda and candy I've got the full 15% discount off of any non marked down item after 3k spent but last I checked my total spent in store is passing into 9k. GW product is already marked down that across the board though. Effing love our store.

I wish my LGS store sold snacks and drinks. Sure, it might be more of a pain, but I guarantee it'd help their revenue.

At the very least I pick up a drink or something if my friends and I are just there to demo some games and play some of my Space Hulk.

On occasion I'll get the Warhammer item from them, but I'm a sucker for trying to budget my wallet.

Unless there's a local ordinance or health code that prohibits them, why don't they? Are they allergic to money or something?

my FLGSs offer no discounts.

I buy small things from them occasionally, they get less than 10% of my annual gaming budget- the rest going to internet retailers. The ironic thing is one of the internet retailers is run by one of the stores I visit, they just do not list that they are related in anyway. Not sure if its an employee using a store discount to buy things and resale, or the store itself.

I used to spend most of my gaming money at a FLGS when I lived in PA, in the USA. there is a store there called Legions, they have a nice selection of pre owned models and break down big boxes into the various sprues to sell when the boxes do not sell. You can pick up some basic units this way for ~33% off, and they always offer 20% off msrp of pre orders. They got all my gaming money when I lived there.

I try my best to do so, even if it's just buying snacks/soda or a few Dice Masters packs, just to show I want to give back to them. But I don't always have a lot of expendable cash, so I can't always make big contributions.
