Ignore your opponent, he/she is being a whining ninny. Right now the Imperial Guard are the second weakest codex in the entire game and quite frankly if you are winning/coming close whilst using them then you have my respect as a fellow IG player.
You should try to get some LR Exterminators and Battle Tanks, they will improve your army greatly.
I am actually currently in the lead of the league I am playing, winning roughly 30-40% of the matches I play. (Note; You get points for playing as well as a painted army, just not for winning)

I am looking forward to adding some cultists among my ranks, as I am "fluffing" my army around an excentric Rogue Trader, who stops at nothing to get the job done ($$$). He's in the same category as the inquisitors using chaos to fight chaos.
This is also why I'll be doing some fin things to my chimera in the future. After all, those renegade soldiers don't want a "clean" chimera to ride in .

Definitely not cheesy. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with drawing powers from the Malefic discipline. It even explicitly says so in the rule book.

There used to be a time where a couple army lists were head and shoulders above others and considered "Broken".
That kind of love has been spread around a bit during 6th and 7th edition.
I honestly think "cheese" no longer has a place in 40k anymore.
I personally like the OP's list, it looks like fun.
I think you will hear the claim of cheese more if your army is some confirmed "netlist" or mainly made up of units that the masses claim are hard to beat.
The way I look at it, if you took the time to paint it, this is not some fast army to "cave face" so they should be able to hold off on their grumbling just a little.

Thanks! I really like using models that doesn't always gets represented on the table (used a bunch of ogryns the other day, actually worked!)
for the painting part, I do my best, as I am not that experienced. I am more into conversions, and I've made a pretty neat Chimera!

No-one should ever be self-conscious about their painting: so few even try!
Any paint on miniature is to be commended.
Yeah, I am a sucker for wanting to play some of the other less "optimal" models out there but the ones I like are usually high in points value so it is not usually an easy "slipping it in the list for giggles."
<sigh> One day chaos with reign supreme again!

Yeah, I've heard some bad things about CSM, are they really that bad atm. ? And couldn't you just not use Codex: SM, to become competetive?
And to keep on topic: Do they have anything cheese-worhty / Competetive?

Scott-S6 wrote:"Cheese" generally means something that your opponent finds difficult to play against.
The biggest accusations of cheese generally come from mediocre players with slightly more powerful lists than the rest of the gaming group and they're generally levelled at anyone that challenges that status.
Personally, I don't think there is such a thing as a cheesy army list - just more and less powerful ones.
Your army list is not especially powerful, a Knight in a 1K game is very powerful.
No, they're not. I can easily pack in enough melta to frag a single knight at 1K.

There there, the Guard can sympathize with you in this case.

Wow. If that list is "cheese"...
Apparently a psyker who will (more often than not) kill himself is cheesy. That's new. And a Guard psyker, at that. Because, y'know, it's not like it's hard to kill a T3 psyker who is throwing around perils on himself for anything he tries to do...

Cheese is a matter of relativity, at least imo. If you're in a casual environment vs weak lists and bring a doublestar/jetbike+wraithknight spam list then you are indeed a perpetrator of dairy deeds. BUT it's all good in competitive tournaments/environments where cheese is the foundation of meta

Cheese is relative. It's based on the meta of your gaming group.
For example:
I started playing with my buddy and neither of us really knew anything. This was at the beginning of 7th ed. I picked up tau and necrons and spacewolves. he picked up Chaos SM, Nids, some orks.
Everything i threw at him was cheese in his mind. Then he picked up KDK and is play testing Dark Eldar. I called cheese on KDK's ability to keep respawning units.
New necrons drop. They never die. Super cheese. He play tests some new DA and really focuses on Ravenwing. rerollable 3 or 2 up jink saves are ridiculous cheese. Librarian convlave shenanigans - Crazy cheese!
New Tau dex drops - Stormsurges and ghostkeels are cheese, Taucurion is cheese, new formations are cheese.
Then we start going to the FLGS in our town to play. Guys there play guard. Everything is cheese to them.
Guys there that play fluffy marine armies - Everything is cheese to them.
Guys that play orcs - Everything is cheese to them.
Scions - Everything is cheese to them.
Forgeworld is considered cheese to some people.
Basically what I'm trying to say is, that if you want to escape the cheese talks, play Horus Heresy where everyone is a marine and has basically the same gear.
- You'll still get cheese comments though because someone will say your min/maxing or not playing fluffy enough.
Cheese to you may not be cheese to someone else or vise versa. The drastic differences between codex power levels mean that some armies flat out suck while some rock, and the ones that suck have no recourse against the higher tier armies.
People at my FLGS have shelved some of their armies becuase there's just no point playing them right now.
