Also, the range sucks.

Not if you are securing midfield objectives.

Personally I run Razorbacks with a Twin-Linked Las cannon.

It's a dedicated transport for a 10-man Dev. squad. The squad combat-squads as either:

x5 marines (boltguns) to capture objectives
x4 heavy weapons with Sergeant acting as normal Devs.

Or

Split evenly into two semi-dev squads.

It's a very flexible unit that can use the pretend-predator as transport, a defensive moving wall OR an extra dev.

Thousand Sons: 3850pts / Space Marines Deathwatch 5000pts / Dark Eldar Webway Corsairs 2000pts / Scrapheap Challenged Orks 1500pts / Black Death 1500pts

Saga: (Vikings, Normans, Anglo Danes, Irish, Scots, Late Romans, Huns and Anglo Saxons), Lion Rampant, Ronin: (Bushi x2, Sohei), Frostgrave: (Enchanter, Thaumaturge, Illusionist)

For the two semi-dev squads option, I think a Rhino would be better, as the two heavy weapon guys can fire out of it. Its how I run my Devs these days. However, the TL Lascannon is still a solid option for Razorbacks, as it gives you some AT firepower without taking up a Force Org slot. And its cheaper than a Las Predator.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

The Grotsnik Corp Bump Feelerer 9,000. It only looks like several bricks crudely gaffer taped to a cricket bat.

for a gladius formation I'm not sure how to take 2 transports for one squad if i split it up by going to 10 then going for the demi squads. I like the idea of my devs sitting back shooting out of a rhino, my dev squads are going to be taking lascannons anyways, and the sarge probably nothing to expensive because I'll have 6 tac squads to take objectives as well as 3 scout squads. I'm thinking going for a mix in my 6 tac squad razorbacks, say 4 AC's and 2 las plas.

I guess when they are free, they are pretty good. I would never pay for the assault cannon.

I don't see why not. Better the Assault Cannon than the Heavy Bolter.

Definitely tasty when free, but that requires Tactical Marines.

Because Imperial heavy weapons in general are bad. Adding 20 pts to an AV 11 cracker box is not my idea of a good time. Plus, I find single assault cannons very, very anemic.
