Even the Dark Eldar Haemonculi have no idea how the Tyranids actually work, and this are the guys that figured how to turn someone in a literal living room.

Where is this fluff from?

From the Harlequin Codex about the DE Haemonculi failure to breed Tyranids.

In the Warzone Valedor, the Dark Eldar capture a load of tyranid specimens, and are planning to use them to create spectacles for the arena. In the Harlequin codex, it turns out that they all died off - 'normal' tyranids don't survive cut off from the Hive mind.

In the Haemonculus codex, a Haemonculus coven comes up with a plan to 'scale up' their experiment in the hopes that a larger captive tyranid ecology would remain self-sustaining - they let the nid's invade a world then once self-sustaining subdual swarms reach the surface, drop the entire world into a pocket dimension in the webway....

There is a plot in the excellent Deathwatch novels about an Inquisitor (well several) looking to control Genestealers through their bond to their biological (human) mother - its not a pleasent tale..........and it was ongoing when I read the last book..........

I AM A MARINE PLAYER

"Unimaginably ancient xenos artefact somewhere on the planet, hive fleet poised above our heads, hidden 'stealer broods making an early start....and now a bloody Chaos cult crawling out of the woodwork just in case we were bored. Welcome to my world, Ciaphas."
Inquisitor Amberley Vail, Ordo Xenos

"I will admit that some Primachs like Russ or Horus could have a chance against an unarmed 12 year old novice but, a full Battle Sister??!! One to one? In close combat? Perhaps three Primarchs fighting together... but just one Primarch?" da001
