The white dwarfs says that it contains
One mortis engine that can be built as a coven throne,3 spirit hosts and 5 hex wraths that can be black knights.
So all opitions are in there. It just looks better on the shelve with the unified paint scheme. It seems that all these boxes are full kits and are the old battleforces under a different name and even greater savings.

Looking at the sprues on the GW site, unless they've recut them you'd be able to make the mortis engine or the coven throne.

If the larger model in each set can be built multiple ways, that makes the sets better for multiple purchases. You can always use more infantry/cavalry, but you don't really need multiple, identical showpiece models. Nurgle doesn't get any multi-kits though. Also, pretty sure the battalion warscroll will feature the model version on the box though.

They don't remove sprues from the big kits. There's too many shared pieces to do so.

Yup someone on here emailed GW earlier about the Seraphon set. Full kit.

This is a pretty sweet deal, the place i usually buy my models has it for $66 tax/ship included. Unfortunately they came out with this right after I bought my Thunderbeast host, or I would have totally went for this one.

You have to keep an eye out in boxed sets though since for the Hammer of Cadia boxed set a while back they removed a sprue so that the Baneblade could only be built as a Baneblade or Hellhammer, not all the other variants.

They actually didn't remove a sprue. They used the previous Baneblade kit rather than the current one, which included the parts to make the new stuff.

It was kind of like how the Imperial Knight has two separate boxes right now. One that can build all of the variants and has Carapace Weapon options, while the other has none of that stuff.

The White Dwarf confirms that the kits in the SC boxes can build the various versions of each model. It's full sprue sets.

I'm probably going to get a couple of the Khorne boxes, both to complement my bloodbound army for AoS, and to use as a daemonkin army for 40K.

The lizardmen box is really tempting, too.

My lads are getting the Khorne & Seraphon sets, they already have a Carnosaur but will use this as the Troglodon option.

I'm disappointed at how few Greenskinz you get in their starter.

Are Orruks a viable Face Smashing force in AoS?

I'm curious if the sets will be balanced against each other. I've already pre-ordered the Seraphon set, but I wouldn't mind getting one of the other boxes, especially if they were roughly equally matched. Might make for some quick and dirty learn-to-play skirmishes.

I think all the sets look great, including the 40k. I want to buy them all but I'm sooo broke after Christmas. Been slowly building a VC force over the last 6 months so I couldn't resist the malignant box. Ordered it today and collecting Saturday... Very excited!

I would definitely be interested in trying aos if they released a dark elf box.

Great question! I'll try to run a few through scrollbuilder to see what comp systems think.

Did a quick check and they don't appear to be very balanced against each other. The Warriors of Chaos have 51w 735pt, while the Malignants have 31w 583pt in their box. The Warriors of Chaos are pretty close to the Seraphon boxes, if you leave out a single chaos warrior, but other than that, they don't appear to be balanced against each other (using scrollbuilder's comp system). This also doesn't factor in the battalion rules, which could even the odds. The Malignants almost certainly have some sort of resurrection ability.

I got a shipping notice for my Seraphon box, so if the battalion rules haven't leaked en mass by then, I'll post what they say.

The Malignants one looks pretty sweet, but it doesn't have anything I'm looking for. :/

I'd be at least interested in a high elf box myself. Never could afford the old battalion box.

But who knows, the way they've changed things, we might end up getting just an Aelf box in the distant future.

Must admit, the omissions I'm scratching my head over are Tzeentch and Skaven.
Nothing for Elves / Dwarfs makes sense as we've yet to see what GW have got planned for them, but Tzeentch and Skaven appear to be pretty much 'as is', and have a large and varied enough plastics range to have done a box.

But then, there are hints that GW are testing the waters with these, so if they're a success the range could be expanded later.

I don't see them doing these as new release releases though, so I wouldn't expect to see a Fyreslayers one (for example) until way after release - otherwise people will just wait A couple of weeks until the box is available.

Nurgle and Khorne have received their own factions. If you look at the covers for the advent painting guides for the four gods, Khorne features Blood Warriors, Nurgle features Blight Kings, and Tzeentch and Slaanesh just have blue and pink Warriors of Chaos. I think Tzeentch and Slaanesh will get their own, full factions eventually - I think Tzeentch will be soon due to the disc guy that was released with the Everchosen, and I think part of the reason that Slaanesh is missing in the lore is because his faction is at least a year or two off. As for the Skaven, they have the Pestilens, but that seems more like a sub-faction under Nurgle. Should also point out that the Rotbringers don't have a BattleTome yet, so there may be more happening with that faction. Well, that's my theory at least...

Anyway, the Warriors of Chaos is pretty much the not-Nurgle/Khorne chaos box.

Fair point! Guess I was just hoping for cheap Tzeentch daemons as cost was the only remaining excuse I had...

I'm tempted by the box Slaves to Darkness, too. Moreover, I like the Khorne box as it seems to be playable in 40k too.

I'm also looking for a skaven one! (Moooooreee models!!!!) And an empire one.

I ordered two Lizard Man boxes -- the £50 deal -- to grab a good core of units for a new army.

I probably won't play AoS with them, but that doesn't matter to GW as long as I buy some more kits.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I dislike what's in the Lizardmen one....at least from an 8th Ed standpoint. I've played against and as lizardmen and the cavalry is just meh and I'm not a fan of a carnosaur really in play.

As an Age of Sigmar starting point I think its good though I just don't play AoS so the contents don't appeal to me as much
