I'll have to kind of play test that so I can at least comment on it from a competitive standpoint.

Do you recommend kitting Belial out with a TH/SS over the SOS? I'm trying to find an effective HQ for my Ravenwing/Deathwing army right now, and don't see much point in spending 200 pts on this guy.

2000 pts
2500 pts
3000 pts

I was wondering. If you decide to use the deathwing formation that has to come in turn 2 or later. Would you auto lose the game without paying the points to add the 1hq, 2troop min to actually have models on the board first turn? Or forced to go unbound to prevent auto loss for having no models on the board at the end of the 1st turn?

Well he's really good...in Deathwing since the ability to hurt high toughness is great. You have Ravenwing and you have plasma and melta in bunches, so he isn't as necessary. If you want the most effective HQ for the army itself, Sammael on the jetbike is still solid dropping that plasma cannon and an ap2 powersword while also being able to tank some wounds in a command squad and keep some black knights up. If you're looking for a Deathwing HQ specifically, and don't want to spring for Belial, a cheap one is just a level two librarian in Terminator armor with a combi-weapon if you want. Provides good flexibility and and can really help buffer some dudes.

You'd have to have other stuff on the table, which is why the formation is weak because you can't null deploy and you'd have at least 650 pts sitting in reserves.

Update! I'm going to my local, biannual tournament on the weekend of February 14th, so I'm going to make battle reports for all 3 games (might be more), so let me know if there's anything you want me to try and we can hammer out what that might look like.

GK Librarians are a great force multiplier for Terminators of all types, with Sanctuary buffing invulnerable saves, Hammerhand giving +2S and Gate of Infinity giving Terminators much needed mobility (especially when combined with Teleport Homers).

I keep meaning to test a GK Librarian in a squad of TH/SS Terminators with access to FNP. Potentially 2+/2++/FNP with S10 Hammers and Gate for mobility seems quite nice.

Yea, tactically it's good it's just a fluff thing for me. But definitely I'll have to give it a go on Vassal or something since I don't own Grey Knights.

I'm thinking of running a Deathwing/Ravenwing list in the near future, and I was wondering what your thoughts would be for this loadout on a Deathwing Command Squad (I just got one I ordered on eBay in the mail today): Champion, Apothecary, Cyclone Launcher, 2x TH/SS, Deathwing Banner (on one of the Shield guys). I would put the CML on one of the shield guys, but the book says "replace ALL weapons with a Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield" (caps added by me). Is this a viable loadout for these guys? I was thinking of putting Belial and possibly a Librarian in this squad as well. What are your thoughts, everyone?

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

You can do the Th/as and cyclone says it specifically says it doesn't replace weapons. The Apothecary with storm shields is good and the champ at ws5 with s6 ap2 is pretty sick. I'd only be hesitant about the banner and putting your characters in it. I don't know how useful the banner will be when you're sitting back shooting missiles and lingering midfield. I'd make 2 command squads and put the champion and banner in the second one with the lobby maybe and a heavy flamer. Some lightning claws wouldn't hurt either as well as th/ss. I wouldn't put both character in a squad either since you want to spread out your threats.
