Marine after a layer has been applied over the pre shade/ pre highlight.
I don't think the picture really does it a lot of justice, but you can really pick up on the subtle differences in the pre shaded / pre highlighted areas on the model.


I think that might be where I finish on the purple layering, so far what do you guys think of the purple finish
Comments, criticism anything will help !

The basic recipe:

Primed white
Base coated Phoenix purple
Hit all the recesses(dark areas of the model ) with Corvus black
Hit all of the high points of the model with kakophoni purple
Light layer over entire model being careful not to dilute the recessed areas with chemos purple

Done.

Hey thanks for the advice I have been watching some videos on pre shading/ pre highlighting and it looks really interesting, I think il definitely give it a try especially on the vehicles, I've seen a couple of different variations on how to do this technique from doing it at the priming stage with black/ gray/ white primers and I've seen it at the layering / base coating stage. How do you prefer to do it ?

well i've only done it on figures so far. i usually prime it grey. then have a good look at it stood up in good light, to have a general idea of where the shadows usually lie. then i just build up the black in these areas. its a good idea to clue up on how light works on different surfaces. curves, flats etc. you want to build from pure black to primer, or pure white if youre also pre highlighting
