I think most Ork players that are left with a sour taste in their mouths (I know mine is still a bit bitter) are forgetting one VERY important point from the Painmob: Independent Characters, when joined to a unit, become part of that unit for all rules purposes. Take the painboy, put him with the nobz, and slap a warboss in the unit. Get into combat, "Pile on da PAIN" next round, kill a bunch of stuff for free!

The problem with Pile on Da Pain is that you can only use it during your movement phase which requires a locked in combat for 1-2 rounds of combat. Orks are really not durable and don't have the stats to stay in protracted combat where their furious charge has fallen off. Only time you want to stay locked in combat is to stay safe from enemy shooting and that's only really against a unit that is poor in close combat so they don't chew you up into tiny bits. Also honestly the issue with the Orks isn't its damage in close combat but the combination of durability and morale when trying to close the distance to get engaged in shooting/melee combat. For the Nobz in particular they are usally going to obliterate what they charge or get destroyed by better melee units. You would really have to go light on the PKs and be fighting something that hits like a wet noodle for Nobz to spend 2 rounds of combat locked in to hope you get a chance to make use of the formation rule.

Deffdreads despite their stat line and points being really appealing suffer from being walkers. Not having a save, infantry movement speed, difficult terrain being a major pain, and AV12 not being what it was in 5th just makes it not perform. If GW pulled their collective heads out of their imperial knight's exhaust port and stopped snorting warp dust with Draigo then maybe they could see that they don't sell walkers because the BRB rules for walkers are hot garbage.

You're absolutely right, but the fact of it is that this is the best thing the Orks have gotten since the painboy upgrade to HQ. I've had units of Nobz locked in combat for 2 or 3 rounds before either finishing off the unit or getting killed/running. This rule is AWESOME against chaos armies that are fearless. It puts the fear in others of charging any units that are involved in this mob because they know that if they don't finish off the unit, they're gonna get smacked next turn for free. I take small units of Nobz with big choppas and power klaws (with a Warboss in tow, of course), backed by a ton of boys and lootas. Get those Nobz in combat and it doesn't really matter if they don't have furious charge because they wound MEQ on 2s anyway. Also, biker Nobz are a REALLY viable thing now, even though they're crazy expensive.

That was (and probably still is) a 15+ page arguement. So, i'd not put my buck on it.

I hear you, but RAW is hard to argue with. Do you have a link to that discussion?
