I went downstairs to seal my models and put them next to the wall in preparation to spray the clear coat. Went upstairs and tripped hard enough to shake the house. Sounded like I was going to fall through the floor of the antique house we are living in. All I hear is a small "hhhhssssssssss" noise and think nothing of it. After going back downstairs to spray the models i looked in horror as to the source of the hss sound. apparently when I fell and shook the house, it knocked off a black spray paint can off the shelf, fell, hit the nozzle just perfectly to get lodged in there (solid spraying) it is spraying, rolling everywhere,I had to run and grab it, getting sprayed a lot in the process, and yanked the nozzle out of the can.
So now I was sitting in a basement with half yellow marines globbed with black paint, a basement floor that looks like a tiger from the can spraying while rolling, and a lot of scrubbing to do before my wife got home.

I kind of has this recently just finishing up an Ogre Tyrant. I had two colour schemes I was using for the skin tone and I mixed it up for my regular Ogres just for variety.

I used the more complicated version of skin painting for most of my character models as it gives them more definition. I foolishly tried the simpler approach for my general....Lets just say I needed more then a few wash coats to get what i actually wanted.

I think mine manifests differently.

Whether it is just the way of my own process or common to a lot of people I don't know, but I often hit a point mid way through a model when it just looks fugly. I'm well aware I hit this point, and it doesn't matter whether everything is going to plan or not (and on a large project especially I'll plan a lot, often I'll have the finished mini in my eyeline for days or weeks before I start work, visualising how I want to approach it) I still hit a point where I start to doubt myself, and it is probably the single greatest cause of unfinished projects.

I always seem to get a model looking nice, nothing great but acceptable. Then I ruin it one way or another, use a wash that changes the look of the whole model, use a colour somewhere on the model that doesn't really work, use a transfer that doesn't go on particularly well.
I then give up on it, put it in a box and start the process all over again, more often than not ending the same way.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

I've made most of the mistakes everyone else has listed and then some! I also have this weird quirk where I HATE all of my paint jobs for at least the first 12 hours after I've done them. I find that in order to see how I really feel, I have to wait until the next morning and look at them again. 9 times out of 10 I'm generally happy the next morning. But at the moment I finish my paint jobs, I'm confident I've ruined the miniature. Every. Single. Time.

I'd love to know what that's about!

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

Sometimes I'll misjudge the balance of colours, since I like to do sectioned, bit of models. I'll realise at some point that there's too much red and not enough black but then as soon as I 'fix' it I realise I was never wrong and now I have to fix my fix.
