I'm not understanding the complaints for BFG. As far as I know, not having played it, the only complaint was that Necrons were a bit overpowered.

In the rules? Yeah, some other balance issues as well.

The 2010 FAQ clears up most of the quibbles, seeing as it was written by die hard fans with deep knowledge of the game and how it played at a competitive level.

Really anyone with access to a computer plays with the 2010 FAQ, so a lot of the issues don't exist anymore. I haven't played in a looong time though, so I'm sure someone else can jump in and offer a better explanation.

Yep. Despite rules still being bananas and some price hikes, I think GW is making a good effort. Whether this lasts or not, only time will tell.

GW has a lot more work to do before I'll give them kudos. I see possibilities so far, that is all.

I agree - they've made some good decisions recently. While I didn't think the new Wulfen looked good (most didn't), the new Genestealers are gorgeous! Then bringing out "Specialist Games" again is awesome! They seem to have stopped consuming drugs in all colours of the rainbow!

They have recently made some surprisingly halfway intelligent moves lately. I will grant them that. Still, poor game balance and their recent attitude of "who needs errata and FAQs when you can just Forge the Narrative" leaves a lot to be desired.

You can submit FAQ questions on their Facebook page.

Well, lets see what GW have actually done:
-Neglected most of the armies
-Of the recent releases almost all of them have promoted Mary Sue Marines. They now have their own: Faction, two sub factions, board game and t cap it all they have an entire game to themselves (30K)
-Prices continue to soar
-Models that have been needing an update for over a decade now are still stuck in their late 90's casts (SoB
-Other models that have needed an update for a long time are still stuck with their bad plastics (looking at you ape-man Cadians)
-WHFB. The poor game that was butchered by over enthusiastic ADHD style rules that made certain elements far too good and then blown up because GW's writers where to lazy to fix their own mistakes
-Age of Sigmarines
-6th edition 40K
-7th edition 40K
-Vehicle rules that make no sense
-Game balance has reached a point whereby, unless you are playing with two codexes from the same era (pre/post Decurion) points no longer matter
-Formations
-Many codexes desperately in need of an update are being neglected in favour of updating the big five yet again (and yes, I do count 'flavour of Marine X' as 'generic Marine')
-40K cannot decide if it wants to be a small scale in depth skirmish game, a larger scale platoon on platoon game or an epic scale amassed battle game. The current attempt to cram all three modes into one game is not working
-Turn 1 alpha strikes are far too common and often very hard to recover from
-The average game board is far, far, far, too small for the game being played on it

Well, that is all I can come up with for now but I think that it does give a rough (and very broad) picture of what is wrong with GW right now.

Prices adjusted for CPI are the same as they were 20 years ago, and their start collecting! boxes are actually value for money.

GW have ALWAYS promoted Space Marines; SMs are to GW what cheese and wine is to France.

Most of the things you list are very subjective, such as WHFB , vehicle rules, 6th and 7th edition, formations etc. I'm not going to bother going into it, but essentially I like the rules though they are very dated (I've got more of an issue with the turn system), I don't like Age of Cygnar, but I realise a lot of players do.

Though it's true their army range is vast and many armies sorely need updates, and balance is pretty much up to the players, and at tournaments only Daemons, SMs, or Eldar can win.

GW has taken many steps in the right direction.

  • Their Start Collecting boxes are a good value.

  • They're back on Facebook and even taking questions for future FAQs.

  • It looks like they are starting to promote community play with support for organized play.

  • They are pushing their lore/story forward with Campaign books that also have updated rules for older models/armies.

  • They are putting out some new really good board games, like the newly released Deathwatch.

  • They are bringing back older board games that people have been asking for.

  • They are starting to push into plastic Horus Heresy models.

  • Most rules/balance issues can be solved with a simple solution.

No kudos for GW for writing so many rules that need FAQed in the first place.

Yep, definetly a time for a kudos. Lots of good moves that are basically mandatory these days, they are taking the right direction.

Balance issues will require a whole new edition and even then will probably not be fixed.

But, the hobby is doing great and things a certainly better than they have been in the past with communications opened a bit, organized play coming back in some form, new entry level products for increased accessibility, reinvigorated Specialist Games, a new format that takes the story forward a bit. In my country the biggest issue with 40K tournaments and events seems to be that not everyone fits in who wishes to participate.

Been having a lot of fun myself with a few campaigns and nigh monthly tournaments around the country.

Haters gonna hate, can't complain, exciting times.
