I would guess that the prosecutor would push for a nice prison stint, as I can't see a jury being very sympathetic.

Since he isn't military, would it be in a federal courthouse rather than a military trial? Right?

I got a speeding ticket on an airforce base and had to pay at a federal courthouse in person (no mail in option).

That was an intertaining few hours of my life. Lots of DUI and more serious cases being arranged(sp?) before the judge that day.

Federal property so I'd think federal jurisdiction. Those guys are humorless. They're used to doing cross state drug and weapons smuggling cases. They'll probably shaft a junior AUSA with this one.

So this guy watched the Hurt Locker et al movies once too many times and thought 'Hey that looks cool I can do that'. So why not ship his butt off to whatever sandbox and give him on the job training. Let him draw the first call that the EOD guys would get when he gets there and stand back and watch. After all he says he is in a top secret unit...prove it. Sorry if I come across a bit strong but I have nothing but the highest of regard for anyone in the military who puts their life on the line for others. I have relatives who served in a 'peace keeping' capacity in the Middle East and elsewhere and the stories they have told me are heart wrenching at the best.

I wonder if this the male (American) version of a woman pretending to be pregnant. He felt so badly he needed to be in the military he pretended to be in the military. Considering all the work it took to pretend he could have actually joined up unless he had been rejected for some reason.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate, but mental health probably precluded him from serving.

Due to the recession getting in has been more competitive than before. With a criminal record it's hard, especially if that record consists of any felonies. When I went in all you needed was a pulse.

I think he has priors, and no waivers are being given for that at this point.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this guy was on a stag night, somebody bet him 50 bucks that he couldn't sneak onto a military base, and having accepted the challenge, he realised how much fun he could have before he got caught, and even when he did get caught, this guy has calculated that Hollywood will buy the film rights off him for 5 million dollars or something!

Sadly, this cannot be done. Once that valor is stolen, it is gone forever. That is why this is the most serious part of this crime.

Not the flaws in security, the lack of oversight, or this fraud's access to a national defense site. It's the irreplaceable valor.

No, I don't think that's how it works. I think that once he was arrested, all the valor falls where he was cuffed and it spins on the floor in slow circles. I'm pretty sure you can get a lot of it back if you get back there quick enough. Otherwise the real tragedy is that our troops would need to re-deploy to earn more valor.

I was going to say: I can't wait to see the film based on this story!

The Kasrkin were just men. It made their actions all the more astonishing. Six white blurs, they fell upon the cultists, lasguns barking at close range. They wasted no shots. One shot, one kill. - Eisenhorn: Malleus

Oh right, sorta hovering about 6 inches off the floor as it spins.

I thought that only happened when he dies.

This dude is a hero. Random guy walks into a military base and is put in charge of barracks and group of soldiers Would probably make for a hilarious comedy movie.
Would have been even more fun if he had been inadvertently deployed on a mission somehow.

What about the security risks?

This guy could have been selling arms to Iran, or letting Joe Commie into American state secrets, or something else!

High Risk sited are secured and guarded. Avoid the Heavy Drop prep site. Guards there will give one warning before shooting
Avoid Delta area. You climb the fence you become Sniper target
Avoid......well....just stay in the troop area

Why would some slacker barking orders and running game on barracks rats want to go anywhere near Heavy Drop prep, Delta, or anywhere else actual work is done?

Heck, I doubt he left his bunk half the time!
