I'm pretty sure the Ultramarines evacuated Damnos with as many civilians as they could fit as the Necrons closed in on them. During the fighting the Necrons killed a dreadnought and its reactor went critical and blew up a bunch of Necrons and a few city blocks after the Ultramarines left on their Thunderhawks.

Ultra-Ultramarines are a great idea. |

In one of the soul drinker books the second one I believe, people are trying to evacuate a hive thats been infected by a nurgle plague.
There is another good story about the Catachans and Eldar with a commissar who doesn't like the catachans at all and is looking for ANY hint of heresy.....its a really good story. It's called Emperors Grace, really good story.

Delicate Swarm wrote:Dark Disciple by Anthony Reynolds is mainly about Word Bearers, but there's a subplot involving civilians trying to evacuate a Tyranid invasion before the Imperium nukes the planet. This older guy tries to get a kid safely off the planet, and succeeds even though he himself is left behind to die. The book then reveals that the kid was infected by a Genestealer the whole time. The moral of the story is, no good deed goes unpunished.
This is the one I thought of. It also features the corrupt pilot who's taking bribes to personally transport the wealthiest people off the planet who he then transports and sells to the Dark Eldar.
