I have to admit that I was underwhelmed. I am not knowledgeable of the comic, but the show seemed really oddly paced, like some of the wierder Tarantino films.

I enjoyed the second episode quite a bit. Dark humor is still running strong and the show seems to be shaping up nicely. I don't expect them to stay in the town past the first season.

I watch the special "Talking Preacher" they had for the opener and the creators essentially said they wanted to show Jesse as an actual Preacher since the comics start out and he's pretty much already given up on the idea of being one. So they are starting a little slower than the comics so that we can get to know everyone before it ramps up to an 11.

Overall I'm enjoying it a hell of a lot more than Fear and we're only 2 episodes in. That said the characters chemistry might be a big part of the reason.

I'm liking that this isn't a direct translation of the comic. I read the comic, loved it, but it's a different medium. It needs to be interpreted differently.

Few questions:

Are the two men in suits
Spoiler:
the angels or whatever that had Genesis locked up?

It's been a while since I read the books, I can't remember who they are supposed to be.

Also, the 1881 flashbacks
Spoiler:
Is that the creation of the Saint of Killers? Seems random.

The meat company is ringing a bell back somewhere in my head, but no idea why.

Also, does anyone think this season ends with
Spoiler:
Jesse killing his entire, kind of scummy congregation by accident, a la the comic book scene?

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

Spoiler:
The meat factory appeared in the comic. Jesse had a run in with its boss, Odin Quincannon, who was a KKK member with a sexual meat fetish.

That makes a lot more sense. I knew it was familiar.

As for the guys in suits

Spoiler:
I think that's something the series made up. In the comic Jesse was hunted by an organisation lead by the vatican, iirc, that sought to ensure God's dominion over mankind, and maintain the purity of Christ's bloodline. It was a human organisation. I don't know what the agents in the show are, but they seem to be clones

Been watching since the beginning and half the time I'm trying to figure out what the hell's going on, but I'm still enjoying it a lot. And now I love the show just because they were painting miniatures in the last episode. And also cuz the sheriff guy is a big headbanger type, even though he doesn't play one on TV.

I'm enjoying it but it's definitely off to a slow pace. I thoroughly love the main 3 characters and their chemistry is definitely there. It just feels a bit like it's crawling right now. I'm hoping the build up is worth it.

W. Earl Brown is a pretty amazing actor. I have loved him since I saw him in Deadwood.

I am liking it so far, I am not familiar with the graphic novels, but as I understand it this first season doesn't have a lot to do with them. Kind of like a prequel to where the comics start. Off to a slow start but I can see the threads they are starting to weave together with Quincannon, Custer's Dad, and the rest of the town.

Last episode was fething fantastic.

Total deviation from the comics... but, still awesome.

I enjoyed it a lot, but I was under the impression that the first season is a prequel to when the comic actually picks up.

I have never read the comics, but are you talking about:

Spoiler:
Arseface getting sucked down to hell?

It's been ages since I've read the comic, so my recollection may be off. But... to answer your question:
Spoiler:
Yes, I'm talking about Arseface getting sucked down to hell.

Also, the 2 angel "custodians" ordeal. I don't ever recall that bit in the comics.

Those could just be prequel things they are coming up with for the show. I thought they were saying they wanted to stay pretty faithful to the comic, so this might just be stuff the writer had made as background.

I could be wrong though, they could be taking this a completely different direction.

Well technically, if Heaven is anywhere beyond 'in the sky', it makes sense you'd see Genesis falling through space.

Of course but "outer space"?

If Genesis does turn out to be an alien then it will fundamentally change the tone of the plot, almost certainly for the worse.

Would it though? I imagine you could get some genuinely sacrilegious mileage out of the idea that angels, demons, god etc are just aliens that give zero gaks about us but who primitive humanity built up huge belief structures around because we're numpties. Assuming they are going with "alien" and not "imprisoned in deep space to stop us finding it" or "went for a wee jog around the solar system for a larf"

I never thought about it that way but I love this idea.

It does miss the rampant misanthropic atheism of its creators though. Ennis may like Lovecraft, probably does. But Preacher was not his ode to Cthulu.

My theory on why it was flying through space is that it was looking for intelligent life after escaping from heaven and it wasn't sure where to find it. I assume it didn't get a good look at earth while it was cooped up in that can.

Also, how about that last episode? Did not expect the gak to hit the fan like that.

I've been keeping up on it; it's enjoyable. I read and enjoyed the comics thoroughly, so I've been trying to view the show as it's own thing as much as possible. I think it shines best when Jessie and Cass are sharing the screen. I also rather like the angels - the fight scene was awesome - and the guys they have playing arseface and quincannon are awesome.

Agreed. The angels are fantastic. I'm looking forward to the finale tonight, I think we may get the opening of the graphic novels.

Because that wasn't God...

Anyhoo as a big fan of the comic I was really looking forward to the show.

I was fairly sure some of it would get watered down, because even on Cable shows you can only go so far, or in some cases only have so much budget

I think on the whole the first season was decent enough, a bit slow in places but I think that happens to a lot of new shows designed for the binge stream

Really looking forward to Season 2, fingers crossed Grandma, Jody and TC, and maybe Herr Starr
