Well "late 2016" became "early 2017" ... but here we are folks!

Season 2 (more like 1.5) will be available on Netflix January 20, which is nearly ... basically today ...

The first season was surprisingly good - enjoyable action, a satisfying plot, and likable characters. I have a lot of confidence that this show will keep going in the right direction ...

Fingers crossed!

Good timing as my daughter and I just finished watching Season 1 last week!

We really enjoyed it, and expect good things from the new season too.

Thanks for bumping this thread as I would have not likely noticed. Looking forward to the new season.

I've just started re-watching season one, don't have any history with Voltron, no nostalgia involved. Loved my first viewing.

Second time around? Doesn't disappoint - actually even better than the first viewing, so I'm looking forward to season two.

Yes I re-watched the first season last week in preparation for Season 2, and while painting miniatures, and enjoyed it even more than the first time.

Coran remains my favorite character in this series XD The entirety of episode 5 on his part is just pure gold.

Coran definitely got better with the second viewing. Bit annoying first time round as I thought that he was going to go all Jar-Jar on the series, but he really didn't!

Finished binge watching the 2nd season. First couple of episodes were not my favorite, but overall enjoyed it. The space mall episode was a standout probably because of how it broke the pace up a little bit. They threw in some good twists and revels during the season, though at least one of them you could see being setup quite a few episodes ahead so it was anti climatic when it happened, but at least they left a little bit of mystery. The last episode evoked images of Gundam. Paticularly liked the twist with Haggar and of course we are setup for season 3.

The tone shifts a lot in these, and I am okay with that. The final episode was satisfying enough.

However, my major gripe is with the Ro-beasts or lack there of. Secondly, Voltron is not very good at defeating them. There were (IIRC) 4 Ro-beast battles in S1 and S2 and I think Voltron only takes out 2 of the 4. The other two are taken out by other actors/factors. Not an inspiring performance.

Oh well. As I watched with my kid in the dead of winter, we were very happy to be safe and warm!

Finished Season 2 last night. The show definitely has a formula where they separate the team and have a couple episodes that occur concurrently to set up the more traditional bits. As far as Season 2 is concerned, the standouts are definitely 7-8 and 12-13, with 7 and 13 in particular being downright flawless.

I'd agree with Robeast thing. In general the show seems afraid of banking on Voltron being awesome. I actually enjoy the relative lack of power and tendency for the show to not treat the Robeasts as monsters of the week but rather devote entire episodes to the battle. That said, its little things like the lack of a pose at the end of the transformation sequence that feels a bit like the creators are avoiding cliches at the expense of some of the gravitas that makes those things cliche in the first place.

Overall though I'm super happy with Season 2. That final episode is stellar and leaves the series in a fantastic place going forward. It doesn't NEED a follow up as immediately as Season 1 did, but I'll be anxiously awaiting its return all the same.

Yeah....the lack of ro-beast fights is dissapointing, but I can live with it as it has left more time for charcterization. However, Voltron has always been and should be about the lion mechs. The show runners have got to be careful about keeping a good balance and there were definately times where the Lion's did not get enough quality screen time. They teased us with the some new Voltron powers and the Green and Black Lion's new powers were pretty cool. One thing I will say that is a huge improvement over the original Voltron is how the universe feels more rich and intriquing with indications that there is far more to this universe. Also the Galra are definately more nuanced and that this may not be the straight up good vs. evil battle that we think it it is.

So looking ahead, the following were the major plot developments that as far as I can tell are on deck for season 3 (in no paticular order). Would anyone care to speculate?

Spoiler:

1. Keith's Galra heritage. Where does it come from (prusumably his mother?), how are the Galra and Earth linked? Is it as simple as the Blue lion's former paladin being Keith's mother or other ancestor? If so, why does Keith have an affinity and link to the Red Lion and not the Blue?

2. Where is Shiro? Sure they setup Keith as the natural replacement for Shiro, but given the extent to which Shiro had to go to link to the Black Lion, is Keith really going to be able to step in that easily and who takes Keith's spot in the Red Lion. The Old show had Princess Allura take over one of the Lions, but given the show runner's attempts to avoid old cliches and take the show in some unexpected directions, I am not so sure. Maybe a yet to be revealed charcter?

3. The search for Pidge's sibling.

4. Haggar's Altean heritage. Who is she really? The 2nd season showed that the Galra and the Altean's were close allies at one point. There is obviously more to their falling out in the distant past than either Allura or Coran I think are willing to admit to. It might also explain some of Allura's issues with accepting Keith's heritage as it seemed to strike me that might reflect a strong degree of self loathing or deep shame that Allura attempts to distract herself from by describing the Galra as the ultimate evil despite the evidence to the contrary.

5. The true agenda of the Blade of Marmora . There is more to this group than meets the eye and given what the show runners did with Avatar and Korra, it would be too obvious to call them Voltron's version of the White Lotus.

6. The fate of Zarkon and the immient arrival of Lotar. Where has he been? In exile? Prusuing other campaign's? How much more of the Galra Empire is to be revealed?

Can't wait for season 3.

Leaving Altea and exploring the universe has definitely given the show a chance to make the universe more interesting, though the original show did fairly well by having the occasional off planet mission anyway. It has left Voltron itself in a less "Defender" role though. There's no doubt though that the show has better grounds for building an intriguing mythos; particularly as Season 2 was willing to revisit some previous locations.

Spoiler:
Shiro's arm is also a dangling plot thread for the most part.

I have been stre-e-e-e-tching out Season Two and even now I still have two episodes to go. I absolutely love it, especially how reactive it has been to the fan response - for example, Pidge's confusion about the gender signs at the space mall bathroom. I am also very much pumped about Allura and Keith sneaking off together and then this whole icy thing Allura is doing toward Keith - smells like a set up to me.

Every time they are about to introduce a new Galra character, I am like "will it be Lotor? will it be Lotor?"

I also like that robeasts are no pushovers and defeating them is something the team has to earn. When the finally defeat the one that the Balmera trapped, it creates a nice "look how far we have come" type moment.

I was not impressed with the look of the first Ro-beast at all. Eyebrows of DOOM!

However, we do finally see the actual blazing sword in Season 2. The slow reveal of the weapons is kind of cool.
