WE need a buff to their special weapons and they'll be on top for sure. Though, not getting FC after sweeping a unit (I think you get hatred now?) is a lot less cool imo.

They skipped giving the caedere weapons a buff with the new Legions book, so I don't think that's ever coming. Seems like they're okay with the weapons being situational or just fluffy choices instead of being real boons like some Legions get. I was disappointed, but I'm now okay with it. There may be more evolutions in store down the road for the WE anyway. Certainly we're going to get a rather epic daemon prince before Terra.

The rule with FC got changed to give WE wound re-rolls of 1s on the charge instead. It's not bad. I think they didn't want to allow the stacking of FC with Gahlan Surlak's rule and potentially have augmented Tac units charging at S6 on top of all the other potential buffs.

WE aren't the best, but like Wolverine, they might be the best there are at what they do. Which is bury even tough enemies in a huge number of chain weapon attacks from basic line units.

Speaking of Surlak, you can make a really formidable force by using him alongside the Crimson path RoW. He gives 4+ FnP with his Narthecium Prime, which becomes 3+++ with the Rite. It's not Necron level of ridiculously hard to kill, since they'll still fall to S8, but I had a 10 man squad of IF tacticals Fury into my blob at rapid fire range and kill 2. I have a list that puts Surlak with Angron and a group of Red Butchers, but it's not something I intend to use often because it seems so ridiculous.

One of the best Deathstars in 30k at the moment, to be sure. I... actually can't think of another legion that gets close. Lorgar Transfigured helps, but he doesn't have Invis anymore. Sallies can do pretty well, but not 3+++ Primarch well

10 death shroud + mortug + Herald

10 WS 5 2-wound terminators w/ I: 3 ap: 2 attacks, and a character who ALWAYS knows endurance

Add in the fact that they are all characters, all leadership 10 + stubborn, with scary overwatch and you have a damn good death star for ~600 points

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I agree with this, worst thing if run into in 30k was infiltrated castellax + preavian. Certain units can counter well (anything instant death really) but I didn't have any available. 20 tac fotl did.... 1 wound!

That... is so unstatistical it's funny, assuming you ftol in Rapid Fire range. But really, both RG and AL do this. the game has enough counters ( powerfists come to mind) that they don't tend to work out to be as op as they seem on paper. Also, Castellax like being farther away from the enemy as they're a shooting unit, so melee armies thank players who infiltrate them close (though that may just be me.)

Well it's hitting on 3s wounding on 6s and 2+ save from preavian.
I didn't do the math but probably not that unlucky.

I play IW and I haven't been that lucky with them. Last 3 games:

Pert charges a lone mortar gun, kill one crew only, the other deals a wound to him...

Perts bombard, bs6, in los, twin linked scatters 11 and 12 inch.
My 1 terminator and icebreaker loose to 3 tactical marines and the breaker than gets swept.... you get the idea.

Any army running 3x squads of 3x quad mortars with phosphex upgrades is OP and I'll just shake your hand and refuse the game if confronted with it. These either should not have been a thing or should cost WAY more than they do.

Yeah. They are one of very few things in 30k I will politely turn down if faced with.

The only other notable thing being Typhons and, in particular, Titans - I do not have the tools to deal with them beneath 3000p, and you can see Leviathan detachment Titans at 1000p or below.
