Must not be a lot of Mezcal drinkers 'round these parts. Used to get this so you got one and had one to share!
And I too have been in training that required eating of grubs and other critters.
I'll try almost anything. And I've learned the value of calorie intake for the sake of calorie intake when needed.

Someone left some chips in the breakroom made from cricket flour, tried a couple, tasted fine.
That's quite a bit different from a plain cricket, I'll admit, but I'd probably try one, at the least.
.....Probably.

As a Frenchman, I can confirm that snails taste really good with a garlic sauce.
I've never tried insects though. But eh, as long as it isn't a spider...

First rule of giving somebody a bottle of tequila: Make the transaction and run away REALLY fast. Tequila had the same effect on me as straight vodka or moonshine (back when I used to drink regularly): It made me mean as a cottonmouth in a drought and want to fight.
Legend has it that the worm is more potent than the booze itself. On the occasions when I got a bottle with a worm, I never worked up the courage to eat it. Even when drunk.

I know you specified not wild bugs - but mine was wild and not on accident.
When I was a kid, my cousins and I were all playing out in the yard. One cousin dared me to eat a potato bug. I double-dog-dared him and we both ate one at the same time. We were total sickos. Fun times back then. Only problems in life were video game bosses and getting up early for school.

I was a Cultural Anthropology student, way back when.
Each week the teacher would bring in food that was intended to.. stretch... the students in regards to what was or was not food - because in the field you were going to be eating what the people native to the area were eating.
The first week it was insects - and I have to say that the chocolate covered ants were easily the best, combining the texture of a Crackle bar with the taste of Raisenettes. the worst was the grasshoppers, which were like squishy peanuts.
After that the foods got more challenging. (I was the only student to try everything - hakari was nasty, but the balut was worse.)

Hakarl sounds... interesting? Sitting her from the safety of my bedroom, I wouldn't mind trying it. I may go back on that if I ever get the opportunity.
Balut I definitely would not do. That just... no.
Just...
No.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

No.
I was able to eat the balut that first time - I very much doubt that I would be able to do so a second time - it does not just look horrible. And this time I would know what my mouth would be in for.
The taste.. not so bad, but the texture - it brings a new definition to the term 'mouth feel'. (If Dakka had a vomit emotorkon I would use it... I could feel the little bits....)
We lost a lot of students because of his food samples - which makes sense if they were planning to go out into the field. (A lot of students couldn't stomach the course load, I guess....)
The Auld Grump, even the corn smut was better....
