And points don't make up for what's still a lacklustre game.

How many games of aos have you played?

Couple of dozen then the local scene totally gave up on it and gw.

fair enough

Out of curiosity what would you say to someone who played half a game, decided there was way too much unnecessary and random rolling of dice, that the turn sequence and combat where unintuitive and clumbersome, and that the whole thing was MORE complicated than WHFB because of all the unique special rules you have to keep track of instead of universal ones, then decided he rather head home than put more money in the parking meter?

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I've always loved the AoS-style of rules and simplicity, but absolutely hated the lack of points. I've been drifting, not really playing any system other than x-wing, but this has finally tipped me into AoS.

Anyone else here feel the same way?

I was tempted by the Seraphone Start Collection box when AoS first released, but I had too many problems with the rules so I passed it up and spent my time and money on some other SF and Fantasy games. I was tempted again when they relased the Flesh-Eater Court and went so far as to buy the ebook for that faction, but I didn't get any miniatures because I was still not satisfied with the rules.

Now, what I hear about the new General's Compendium addresses most (although not all) of my complaints about the original system. I'm actually considerting starting a Seraphon or Flesh-Eater army for AoS, now. The only thing holding me back is the fact that no one is playing AoS at my FLGS and AFAIK the only place in town anyone is playing is the GW store, and given the attitudes usually found at GW stores and the lack of gaming space or support for long term gamers, that's not attractive to me.

Do you still play 40K?

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Hell no, I gave that up shortly after starting WHFB

Points are tipping me back into playing. And it's tipping quite a few locals back into it too. I'm excited because KoW took off locally and will continue and not I can also play AoS whose ruleset I genuinely enjoy. Win/Win for me.

I feel a little burned from when AoS first came out, I bought a lot of round bases and the first few books just to find I had no opponents after a few months. I play predominantly pick-up games, which is a crap-shoot with bad odds with a game like AoS when it was first released.

I'll probably wait six months and see what happens at my local shop before playing or buying anything. one thing I learned while playing during the first AoS release is the number and type of players in your immediate area are far more important then any changes to play organization.

I'm interested, but I was interested anyway. All I want now is a nice book with some meaty background information. Something beyond "Sigmar's Chosen kicked some butt here and then some Azyr followers built a fortress around the gate," but not quite as in depth as "Baron Von Doomhammer tortures his duardin slaves on a weekly basis and exacts tithes from the skaven who he allows to work his mines."

'Murica! (again)

The GHB came today at GW and I played the manger our first time faceing eachother's armies. My Fyreslayers vs. his FECourts. I asked for the super-spawny ghoul list to experience how it sounds they should be played. We ended up 2100 points pitched battle, scenario the 3 places of power one. We each took GA battle trait, command ability rolling and rolled an artefact. Since the allegiance specific traits come with Sylvaneth release apparently we stopped there.

It was fun, a new mindset in list making which at first seemed limiting compared to open, Clash or SCGT...but, everyone is also so limited to amounts of heroes and the 3+ battlelines for less than 2500 points. For armies/subfactions with 3-4 units and the rest being heroes it can be an adjustment. But, we loved the game, and it was only one game out of a book we had literally just opened and picked what looked like fun. But I am without a doubt certain that the options this brings, using or not, will be nothing but a good thing for AoS. More to my taste and the locals, narrative play and campaigns, warband options.....soooooooo good and exciting! Get my Mordheim fix in a way with that, and I'm stoked to try some narrative fun come late summer.

Sounds awesome man! Yeah I wondered about your army when I say all the heroes in the Fyreslayer list have the "leader" role, meaning you can't really take that many of them. So glad to hear you had fun!

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

You got 300+ pages to look through good luck. I think it's 300+ pages.
