You don't really need to work to bury stories like this. The very sad reality is that they just don't generate that much interest in the greater media unless there's footage.

Right now there's a whole lot of media coverage and discussion in Australia about the abuse dished out to kids in juvenile prisons*, because of a story that ran on the news on Monday night. But the content in that story is old hat, it's been around, and covered in investigations for years now. What changed was that one news show got their hands on cctv of some of the abuse and put it on air.




*It basically amounted to torture, and of course, a very high proportion of the kids are aboriginal, because that's how it works here.

If this were true we wouldn't put paedophiles in prison. But we do, we just manage their safety, putting them in solitary, or among restricted prison populations and not in general.

Abuse and negligence is probably the maximum charge that would be levied at the moment. They wont face jail time. Thats the sad fact.

In the US there is a strong reluctance or bias against sentencing law enforcement to jail time. They effectively get a get out of jail free card.

The problem here is he should never had been there in the first place, as many have already stated. Even if the LEOs had no idea what to do with him, or didn't have the resources, he should not have been allowed to simply starve to death devoid of treatment. If one man scares prison workers so badly, then I recon they are in the wrong profession. Try walking the streets of a foreign country where everyone totes around an AK-47 not even placed on safe and see how you feel then?

I am sure this is not an isolated event either based on the several suits set against the county.

If you take them alive, and put them in jail, they should remain that way! I am not sure how much more evidence is required to show true lack of empathy for another human being is required, but with the footage being allowed to be shown in court, I am sure the tax payers are gonna have to foot a rather large bill. Too bad they can't make the people responsible serve hard labor at minimum wage, with all money earned going to the family as a penance.

Indeed and burde of proof is not on the policemen who had custody of him. However it should still be looked into properly, even at this late stage.
