To this day I still forget some special rules and stuff to do. It's a somewhat complex game.

However, the most basic stuff isn't that hard to learn. Move 6", roll 7-BS to hit with ranged weapons, compare S vs T for damage roll, saves, 2d6 charge, compare table for melee weapons, leadership to stay in melee, initiative to clean the running unit.

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / Fallout Factions: BoS / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion: CIS / WWX: Union

Perhaps if you are daunted by all the rules try Kill Team to start off with. It will add, yet more rules (why, for the love of God why) but it is very fun and small scale. Make mistakes at this level then start increasing the points of the regular game once you have learned them. I am sure you will have fun *unless you play against Tau, Necrons, Eldar or Spacemarines.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Hello, everyone.

I'm looking to get into 40K but before I do, I'd like to here some of the things other went through when learning and playing the game. Was it difficult for you? What did you find annoying? Was it hard to pick and build an army? Did the scope of rules overwhelm you?

I'm sorry that it sounds super-general but I'm just trying to get my head on straight about the game. So I thought to just hear a few personal experiences to paint a bit of a picture of what it was like being a new player.

Edit: Feel free to ask me anything to help clarify thing.

For me and my friends, we bought some boxes, built them up and played on planet pool table that had been settled by the Amazon Primians and their strange cardboard houses. We had no clue about rules cause screw reading the rules, they gotta be pretty easy right? So we had tau fire warriors hitting on 3, cause bs 3, and wounding on 3's cause we found the table. Then my space marines hit on 4's and wounded on 3's. But we were a little vexed on why the Tau Commander only hit people on 5's, we knew we were doing it wrong, but we're still a little shy on going in to ask for help.

We finally went back in to our Games workshop to play a game and ended up fighting a 2v2 against some people who played a bunch. They fulled explained all the relevant rules and how to look stuff up and wit all became clear.

Nearly 3k+ points of Slaanesh (AoS)
2500 points of Ironjawz
Too many points of Space Marines.
