It's pretty much grounds for having the inquisition sniffing around and other imperial factions to not trust you.

Space marines only have fleets as a means of transport, they are dangerous enough in a fight to win and are heavily armoured to survive orbital defences but they are literally glorified mass conveyors when compared to actual navy battleships. They lost the right to full fleets after the heresy when they were shown not to be trusted with that amount of power again.

How would that work with fleet based chapters? Surely they would need to have access to other ship types (as well as bigger guns).

Fleet-based Chapters tend to rely more heavily on their battle-barges and strike cruisers... if they need more firepower, they ask the Imperial Navy for support.

So in any case it's best to separate my fleet and let some battle barges go do there thing while having a suitable amount of vessels and supply ships.and then when there is a huge conflict like a black crusade.My fleet would rally up and be a full force again.However, this will result in the independence of each branch of my full fleet .which each means every fleet must handle there own supplies and recruitment while watching each others back.this is good for growing my chapter, the coverage and it helps managing supplies. but each of my fleets are vulnerable to bigger chaos fleets and when this happens, there is a chance one of the neighboring fleets can't get there in time.That said if i had my whole fleet no one would be crazy enough (other than orks) to attack my fleet, however my fleet would be VERY strained on supplies and coverage.what can i do?
