'Slaughterfest!'

Today we bring you an epic struggle between the Albainn 'Painted Ones' and the
Khthones 'Slaughterers'.

TheKhthones deploy first due to their lower authorithy rating. The Krokodarchon chooses to deploy his reptilian mates in a central position on the battlefield. Two small woods flank the Khthones' deployment, so it won't be easy to outflank the small host.

The Albainn general decides on a left flank deployment type. Oghuritnes and oghurs are on both flanks and the revered goghu anchors the battleline.

Both hosts are deployed, time to smash each other's brains out!

Turn 1

The Krokodarchon starts the battle by daunting the Oghuritnes and Drast, the hound of Dun Durn. He then advances alongside his Krokodar bodyguards.

The Albainn sagart casts 'resistance' on the big unit of Oghuritnes. He then tries to recover but fails his recovery test. One fumble roll later, 9 wounds of damage are added to one of the Oghuritnes. Luckely, the Sagart survives the magic backlash. Bagseg, the Oghuritne Umaer inspires the Oghuritnes and they move towards the Krokodar.

Turn 2

Aggrakk, the brutal Krokokh warrior charges into the Oghurs. One Oghur is knocked uncouncious and is killed outright. But before the Krokokh can feast on the corps of the fallen Oghur, Gudhlagg and the surviving Oghurs step forward and kill the foul beast.

The Khthones retain the initiative and the Krokodarch and his Krokodar bodyguards smash into the Oghuritnes. The Krokodars deal out 65 damage and the Krokodarchon an impressive 84 damage! Several Oghuritnes are torn limb from limb by the cold blooded killers.

Brugbad, the Oghuritne Rud rallies the survivors around him and together they put 41 damage on the Krokodars.

The Krokodars are the strong unit, are swift chargers and aquired a whole pile of blood. Unsurprisingly, the Oghuritnes retreat from the onslaught but are caught and utterly destroyed by the Krokodar and their leader. Savage!

The Albainn are reeling but continue the fight. The Sagart puts 'stone shatter' on Bagseg, the Oghuritne Umaer. Bagseg then charges the weary krokodar unit and deals 53 damage, enough to kill a Krokodar warrior all by himself. The other Krokodar unit and Ettu, the revered Oghu exchange blows but both hold firm.

Turn 3

Once again, the Khthones gain the initiative, despite the re-roll for the Albainn. The krokodarchon activates first and cuts down Bagseg. His surviving bodyguard kills the wounded Oghu.

The Albainn Oghurs finally end their flanking manoeuvre and attack the second Krokodar unit. They deal 93 damage but despite the carnage, the stubborn Krokodar hold firm. The Krokodarch, the other Khthones commander, then joins the fray and destroyes one Oghur. Gudhlagg and the surviving Oghur fall back.

Turn 4

The end is in sight for the few Albainn survivors. Gudhlagg and his mate make a last stand against the murderous reptiles. After a last brutal combat, the game ends.

Victory to the Khthones!

'Battle at the Farmstead'

Today's battle is fought between a Norse raiding force and the valiant Erainn defenders.

The Norse and Erainn hosts take turns to deploy their forces.

The Erainn host:

The Erainn right flank consists of a unit of two large Bog beasts and a unit of Tuanagh led by a Taoiseach and a Cristoir.

The Erainn left flank: a big unit of Fen beasts led by an Ancient Fen beast.

The Norse host:

The Norse right flank is led by a ferocious Troll Konungr who commands two small Troll units.

The Norse left flank is guarded by a Visi led Holumann unit and a brutal Fell troll (who later turned out to be not so brutal).
Time to incite! The Erainn general inspires some units and the Norse general manages to daunt a couple of enemy units.

The Norse start the hostilities by advancing towards their target, the Erainn Farmstead.

The Troll Konungr, Grom Eklund, leads the way.

The Erainn Fen beasts activate and start throwing rocks at the incoming Trolls. Two of the big brutes are wounded very badly. Those rocks hurt!

Turn 2: The Norse Holumann and the Erainn Tuanagh ready themselves to duke it out south of the farmstead. The Norse charge is brutal and they kill a lot of Tuanagh. But the Erainn Cristoir inspires the Axe wielding Tuanagh to hate the enemy and they totally obliterate the Norse infantry!

Grom, The Troll Konungr retains the initiative and, together with his fellow Trolls, charges into the Fen beasts. One Fen beast is chopped down by the deadly cleavers. The Fen beasts strike back but only minor damage is caused. They hold firm however, thanks to Ancient Fen beast's high authority.

The Bog beasts take up position to counter attack the Trolls in the next turn. The Norse try to keep the pressure high on the Erainn. The Fell troll activates and charges the surviving Tuanagh. The brave Erainn don't stand a chance and are wiped out. The Fell troll then breaks through into the Bog beasts.

The Norse seem to hold the advantage. The Erainn lines barely hold against the full might of Thur's finest. One unit of trolls is held back in reserve, ready to deliver the killing blow!

Turn 3: The Bog beasts activate and kick the living crap out of the Fell troll. The Fell troll decides to fall back after such a beating.

The mighty Bog beasts overrun into the Visi. The brave Norse nobleman manages to avoid being sucked by the beasts the next turn but is then smashed to a pulp.

But then the full force of Mother Nature awakens. The Fen beasts retain the initiative and start hacking the Trolls apart. They use their bite attacks to do an astounishing 57 points of extra damage to the trolls. Konungr Grom and his fellow trolls break and are run down by the angry treemen.

The second Troll unit activates and engages the Fen beasts. They must have seen the butchery that occured because they only manage to do a couple of wounds to the Fen beasts.

Turn 4 and the Erainn now hold the upper hand. The Bog beasts enter the fray and they start sucking the Troll warriors. Bog beasts are brutal versus monstrous infantry!

The surviving Fell troll decides to avenge his fallen mates and deals out some damage. But he is swiftly cut down by the remaining Erainn beasts in the next turn.

The farmstead is saved from the Norse raiders. Victory to the Erainn!

Update!

In this blogpost I'll be showing you an update on my project 'The Herd'. All models are made by Mierce miniatures. The goal of this project is to build a huge Darklands Fomoraic army, mainly consisting of the fantastic Gabrax and Tarvax models. I love painting and modelling these models, they have so much character!

Here is an overview of the finished models. Many more will (hopefully) follow in the next couple of months!

In our eternal quest to promote the tabletop game Darklands we went to the Crisis 2018 with a table full of Mierce miniatures. We love going to this anual wargaming convention and had a great spot in hall 2 this year next to some fantastic clubs.

This years game featured a big battle in wich the Norse invaders disembarked from their drakkars and started pillaging a small town. The Anglecynn and Jutes counterattacked the Norsemen and bloody combat ensued. Our main goal was to showcase the Mierce miniatures and chat about the game to anyone who was interested.
