Probably.

That being said, I've seen people throw hissy fits when I bring Elf allies (Eldar/DE/Corsairs/Harlequins, in some combination of those factions). I mean, TIRADES.

AdMech and Space Marines, and Space Marines and IG: while they seem perfectly reasonable to me, and maybe even more reasonable than being fielded by themselves in the latter case, I've seen folks nerd rage like you wouldn't believe over those combos.

I am ashamed to say that I once summoned Slaanesh Daemons with Eldar just to annoy my opponent who loves lore-friendly games.

I love lore friendly games too but I wanted to see the look on his face just once.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

In a team tournament a few months back, me and my teammate (who were playing CSM and Daemonkin respectively) faced a team of Eldar and Daemons (Infernal Tetrad). It was a pretty fun game despite being pretty heretical lore-wise.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

The most egregious is probably my friend(tau) and I(daemons) vs a tyranids/adeptus mechanicus force.

The lore for us is the tau got stranded by a warpstorm and we agreed to help them get home navigating the warp as long as they helped us get off planet and find a cruiser for us to takeover. there ethereal has strangely gone absent since we boarded

A guy I played against had guard spamming daemonlogy (malefic) and said they were loyal, oh and they did have commissars.

Ya see, all you had to do is use Harlequin models and say that instead of "Summoning Daemonettes" you were opening a Webway portal for some Harlequin trainees to come out. That would have been perfectly Lore-frilendly.

In general, any Come the Apoc allie armies are egregious, and should automatically make your army become Unbound. Warriors tend to lose a bit of discipline when they have to fight alongside their worst enemy.
Having said that, I have won several local tourneys using 2 Canoptek Harvests allied to my Eldar Scatterbikes & WK army, Fortunately, my conscience caught up with my and I sold the Harvests.
In one of the tourneys I did so well that I claimed full points against each of my opponents by turn 3/4. I felt so bad that I split the 1st prize winnings amongst all 3 of them for being such good sports.

My list is pretty bad in terms of GW fluff. I run them as iron hands/imperial knights, but for their fluff I say that a radical inquisitor found a stock of pre-heresy death guard gene-seed and made the army as a project with an allied Ad Mech magos

I had to sell my Chaos stuff before I could really get started on the second army, so my Iron Warriors were sold in a lot with a MASSIVE amount of unpainted plastics. My intent was to paint them up as Ultramarines 1st Company and have a diorama travel base with something about the truth being revealed or "Macragge: don't believe the lie".

We played some pairs kill team. We had 14 people with Kill Teams show up. The rounds were by a draw system, so you had something like, "Player 3 and player 6 vs. Player 5 and player 8" Every round, you were playing somebody different and paired with a different player. That led to some odd combos. We had a couple of battles where two teams from the same faction were on different sides. We had Dark Angels and Deathwatch vs. Dark Angels and Harlequins. Other than that pairing, our Deathwatch player was paired with an alien every single round! Our Grey Knights player was teamed up with Chaos, and later with Daemons. It was just a fun event with no prizes or overall winners, so the attitude was pretty laid back. It's a good thing, because some serious fluff violations occurred.

Realizing that the fluff was going to suffer a bit with this format, the host told us that we all had to present a quick story of why our teams were fighting each round. Hilarity ensued! Most of the stories were told in character, including such things as Dark Angels with Bronx accents, Orks that sounded like Shrek, Tau quoting Monty Python and Space Wolves that sounded suspiciously like the Swedish Chef from the Muppets! Every insult ever used in a movie or TV show must have surfaced during the day, as the teams just kept taunting each other (Still in character for the most part) throughout their whole matches. (Including the Tau player's perfect response to a bad fish smell joke of, "I may smell like fish, but your Father still smells of elderberries.") Nobody could keep a straight face.

One of the best stories was Deathwatch trying to explain why he was teaming up with Orks. "After fighting the 'Nids and Tau, I saw the Orks and said, "Hey! These guys look pretty cute!"" Most of the stories did involve teaming up for survival against a larger threat. When my Dark Angels ended up fighting another chapter of Dark Angels, it was because, "Brother Orvisc picked all of the good bits out of the stew last night!" Cathie claims that her Harlequins were fighting the Genestealers for wearing pastels after Labor Day. I can't imagine how snippy she will get when she gets her Sisters of Battle army someday!

I love the Space Wolves vs Thousand Sons story. It's probably my favorite bit of fluff for 40k. So, what did I do about it? I took a huge steaming dump on anything resembling lore purity.

I have a collection of SM painted up in pre-Heresy TS colors (almost.. I use red + silver since I like the look better) with a lot of Space Wolf bits included. Originally they were trophies, but then I decided... feth it. They're renegade Space Wolves and Thousand Sons that run about the galaxy fighting the good fight, collecting relics, and trying to atone for being colossal screwups during the Heresy. Take some warp storm shenanigans, problems with that silly "indoctrination machine" from the Ragnar novels, and you've got yourself something that I'm pretty happy with that I can only hope causes the spontaneous growth of neck beards.

Thick, fluffy neck beards.

...really?

I think the worst was back when my SO played Necrons. Almost every game we played was teams, so it usually ended up as Necrons+CWE vs. Tyranids+IG (Few editions back, and I was brandy new, so chill).

Edit: I mean, the lore clearly states that all types of Eldar work together. Harlies and DE are pretty tight, Corsairs and DE are rather similar, and there are fleets of Corsairs harboring at various major Craftworlds. Why would someone pitch a fit about that?

My favorite WTF fluff game was allied Dark Eldar and Sisters vs. Imperial Guard. I think I ended up deciding that a Dark Eldar spy had infiltrated and assassinated the Cannoness, and used creepy body modification stuff that Dark Eldar love so much to look like her and take her place. Then she sends the Sisters to a nearby world declaring the IG there to be heretics for some reason or another and basically softens up the IG for a Dark Eldar real space slave raid. The DE pop in during the middle of the Sisters attacking the IG and hilarity ensues.

Obviously people are fully entitled to do whatever they like with their figures, and as long as they derive enjoyment from it, that's fine, but I wouldn't be down with this sort of thing at all. It's like going to play D&D with someone and them announcing their character is Optimus Prime from Transformers or whatever.
