Nah, as much as I like the CIS (though I think their capital ships look a ton better than their fighters, with the only possible exception of the Bellbullab), I don't think it has a place in X-Wing. And neither does the Republic, as much as it pains me not to see these ships in their striking reds and yellows and whites. I'd be content if they showed up as early Imperial vessels, salvaged fighters bolstering the ranks of the Rebellion or in the hands of scummy mercs and local militias, though.

If there's going to be a fourth faction (and a home for all those rare CIS ships and gear), IMHO it should be the Corporate Sector Authority, the white collar answer to Scum and Villainy. It had an important presence in the old EU and features in the new canon in stories set both before and after the original trilogy. And, if one's going to accept that the Mining Guild is part of the corporate structure of the Galaxy as well, we've already seen some of their ships.

If we want to keep it in the GCW era and beyond, this would be the best route for CIS-style ships in the current X-Wing/Armada system. However, much like the Scum and Rebel factions, they have to work around the laws of the Empire in order to have any effectiveness. You have to have Palpatine's grip on you pretty solidly to be professionally running such armed ships in the middle of the Empire without the Navy trying to mess you up.

The Clone Wars era really would work better as its own system, but I would love to see it. Not a huge fan of the Prequels themselves, but I love what came out of them with the Clone Wars series and some of the video games (love Republic Commando, I still run through it now and then). I am not sure it should be set up to be compatible with the Civil War, but that hasn't stopped some game systems like Battletech or 40K from doing past wars in to their games.

Where ever the Emperor needs his eyes

Im pretty sure for Armada CIS Capital ships could be used, because the Rebellion would be looking for any ships they could use.

this is a brilliant idea. you could have galaxy spanning campaigns to relive the clone wars with both xwing and armada styles. But my only concern is, is it going to be able to be expanded into new units etc? probably not after maybe two or three waves.

That's been my concern with the whole Star Wars franchise, honestly. At some point, they are going to be releasing stuff that is purely from their own mind and zero with any video or book basis. As it is, I'm sure some of the more recent stuff hasn't been made up, but I haven't kept up with the book lines since before the Yuuzhan Vong finished, and barely finished that and the Dark Nest trilogy.

And it's not like they can't present some of those aspects in Rebels or new books, either, but you know... Disney.

But again, having the actual models released initially for Clone Wars kits and including Corporate Sector, Scum and Villiany, and Rebel versions of certain ships would also be a path of enjoyment. It's not like we are doing a lot of historical scenarios here.

My thought behind making the Clone era mostly separate from the current game would to try and stop what happened to Attack Wing when they brought out the pre-TOS stuff. the old stuff in AW just can't stand up to the TNG stuff. you could only really play similar generation ships against each other. they may have leveled that out in the last 2 years since i lasted played it, but it is also a terribly imbalanced game to begin with.

It would also depend on how many new ships Disney can provide through the Movies and Rebels. Not counting the first year, we've been getting ~8-10 new medium and small ships each year, through the waves, plus ~2 "irregular" releases like aces or large ships.

So it's probably simple math: if one movie (they seem to become an annual thing now) and one season of "Rebels" can provide those 8-10 new ships each year, we won't be seeing the C.I.S., if they can't, they'll eventually turn up, since they're pretty much the only iconic, "new-canon" ships that haven't been introduced into the game yet.

That can be taken two ways and still allow for it, though.

Battles in Clone Wars usually involved a higher number of units involved when compared to the Civil War. This means lower point values to field a larger number of units. In comparison, these lower point values (and equivalent stats) would also represent the difference of technologies from the end of the Clone Wars up to what we see in Force Awakens.

But that's just one way to look at it. It would be possible to use the same models for both sets, and just have different cards with different costs and such for both eras of the game.

Or you could just make it into an Armada style game since it was a galaxy spanning big fights war.

Well, they did include Leia and Shara Bey in N1 Starfighters in one of the Aftermath comics. Going up against 4 Star Destroyers, too. So, they might use that to justify bringing even a pre-Clone Wars ship.

I was including Armada (primarily focusing on it, in fact) in that assessment. There were enough small unit engagements, especially for Jedi operating on certain missions (if we go by the Clone Wars shows), to justify X-Wing scale games as well.
