Well NEMO is up as the next goal. By my count the $120 pledge has 88 figs in it right now, we will definitely see more before this is done, but the dragon add on is a must for me .

Just for a comparison the Massive Darkness Kickstarter ended with 150 figs for $120 pledge. I don't think we will get as much with this just because MD has hordes of same type figs where these are more unique sculpts.....but I'd love to be wrong

Well another stretch goal down, now onto more clowns . I will be making a bloodbowl goblin team out of the clown and assorted other figs I have, maybe even using the KS MR. Honk and the regular mister Honk as my two trolls.

You're not alone!

https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1709890/sell-game-me-why-and-not-some-other-one-vs-many-ga

Technically, it's not a dungeoncrawler since it takes place in the streets of London (or wherever), but it might as well be. (BGG calls 'em "one vs. many"). I think the Ether mechanic, where the players directly control how much resources the Nemesis gets could be a subtle tweak.

I'm definitely in it for the models, which were originally $20+ each, when they were 54mm by Smart Max. I've seen steampunk miniature KS, but not these "weird" steampunk mini's, where almost every mini is a boss monster!

Double stretch goal... unlocked!
*TEN* models... unlocked!
*Reduced* goal gap to the next tribute figure (who looks nothing like the original)!

Yeah, maybe the KS isn't doing as well by CMON standards, but at least they're getting us more stuff...

It sure is nice, but IMHO not as good as this:

Or this

Or especially this (my personal favourite):

I think the overall quality of the old Smog figures was simply too high, which is why this campaign in hindsight was always going to be a disappointment to me.

Isn't that last figure actually in this campaign?

EDIT:

Just checked - that 'portal' one is too!

Unless you're concerned about the materials here?

EDIT:

A bit more looking and - all of those figures are available in this campaign, though some (?) are in add-ons...

Yes, versions of all those figures are in the campaign; smaller scale, lower detailed, compromised PVC gaming versions, as opposed to the original 50mm scale beautiful resin originals.

Don't get me wrong, CMON's PVC is great for top-end board game figures, the ideal medium really, but the original resins were much, much more than that.

Sometimes figures go beyond craft and into the realms of art, that's how I feel about some of the resin Smog line.

Edit: Compare the two Opium Dragon versions, it illustrates the point quite well I think.

The fact that they were 50mm would be what probably kept them off most gaming tables, most likely?

Once you drift above that 32mm/35mm scale for 'normal humans', you eliminate a lot of your potential market.

Anyway, I'm in for $1 now - decisions to be made later!

Let's get some things straight, the SMOG 'minis' were 1/35 scale, most of those minis were larger then 50mm. Professor Sawbones was already 63mm tall, most would be 65mm+.

For gaming that scale is horrible! Not to mention expensive, even if you use PVC... Heck, storing it at that scale would be insane, it would mean a box almost twice the size along every axis, almost eight times the volume...

This type of game in that scale would not be something I would buy or back, I suspect many more with me, especially compared to folks that aren't backing now because of the smaller scale...

While some PVC boardgame miniature pieces aren't that great, there are some that stand above the rest by a wide margin. Surprising enough, most are by CMoN:
- Journey: Wrath of Demons
- Zombicide: Black Plague
- Blood Rage
- 7 Sins

CMoN has done a lot of miniature boardgame KS and has apparently learned a lot from their previous experiences, they currently provide a very high quality for miniature board and even wargames. They might not be display quality models, but in my experience those are often to fragile to play with...

While the 1/35 line of SMOG miniatures is currently discontinued, it might make a return after this game is out into the wild for those folks wanting something more challenging to paint after they painted all their boadgame minis...

That said, it's a typical CMoN KS, the $120 pledge has already risen to $264 due to addons which are mostly KS exclusive...

I just measured Lord Holmes and Lord Crowley, 50mm and 54mm from feet to eye. Prof Sawbones is only that tall because of his huge mask.

Why is that scale "horrible" for a self contained luxury boxed game?

You wouldn't need to add all of the other lesser figures that CMON has added. No uninspired killer clowns for me thanks!

a 50mm scale version with a fifth of the total figures would suit me just fine.

I can only speak for myself, but I prefer quality over quantity. I may be in the minority, but that's just fine with me.

Edit: I already own all of the Smog figures that I wanted to own (bar two or three that I'm still hunting down), so it's kind of irrelevant anyway

Edit #2: I love how you state that gaming with larger scale miniatures is "horrible", then later, in the same post, praise Journey; Wrath of demons, where most of the figures are 50mm+
That made me chuckle!

Ahhh... Well, technically it's not a dungeon crawler b/c the board isn't procedurally/randomly generated and needs to be progressed through, which I didn't know til now (gauntlet-type games are the opposite, where the board is static and monsters come in waves. not sure if it has a specific board game name for the mechanic/genre). But interesting that it's a 1vAll game, THAT i didn't know, thanks for making me realize. Actually makes me slightly more interested since I kinda like 1vAll games lol (of course that genre can be mixed w/ others. that thread mentions Descent, which is 1vAll AND a dungeon crawler. Unless you use a certain expansion which makes it pure co-op).

I'm still passing on backing for now since the game in general isn't high on my Wishlist...and I'm poor. And while the KS exclusives look cool, they're not enough for me to commit to a game I'm just not sure how much I'll get out of (the group who WOULD be down to play this I only meet up w/ once every couple months or so). Tho I'll be tempted as heck to get it once it hits retail! Cuz that's just how I am!

Yep. The original Smart Max SMOG miniatures were expensive. You paid for quality.

I don't think either the Smart Max or CMON versions are inherently better. Some people prefer the deluxe hardcover, others the more affordable softcover.

Because they take up almost 8x the space of the current SMOG scale minis => cost and size

It's not really compatible with other miniature lines, which are mostly 'heroic' 28/30/32mm, a lot of folks are looking beyond just using such games with the game it came with.,

Journey is a mostly non-human, with currently only Tripitaka being a problem for use with other 'heroic' 28/30/32mm games.

SMOG is a mostly human game, with some exceptions.

SMOG is going to raise more then double then what Journey raised, Journey is not availble in most game or webstores. They only delivered the Base game and all the extra content is now 2.5 years late... It's beautiful, but very much a boutique game.

Right. So it would be horrible for Smog, but it's ok for Wrath of Demons, a game with similar sized figures. I can tell you that the box for Journey is not 8 times the size of my other board games

Why do figures from a luxury self contained board game have to be compatible with anything else? I know this is a wargame forum, but that's another issue entirely.

So what if the figures are human or non human? how does that relate to anything other than your ability to use them in unrelated 30mm scale wargames? That's right; it doesn't

I have no idea how these points relate to what we are discussing. Smog will make more money than Journey did......ok? You can only buy Journey online.....ok?

Your argument seems to be "I don't like larger scale figures because they don't fit with other figures that I own", which is fine, so why not just say that?

Get outta here!

In all seriousness, the only advantage the PVC figures have over their resin brothers is durability.

Oh, and less chance of causing cancer when sanded.

So you're just going to keep gakposting and complaining that a mass produced PVC boardgame with a variety of enemies/figures isnt instead an even more niche product with a scale useless for anything else, in a material unsuitable for anything but living behind a glass display case?
