I didn't miss that bit - that's not in the source to which I was referring. All it says is "Actual examples of [Mark 2] armour, much repaired and carefully maintained, are still in use in small numbers by many Space Marine Chapters".

"small numbers" easily encompasses a full squad or two in a 40k army. I don't think anyone is arguing for a whole army of mark 2 or 3 suits (until Saturday, that is )

I'm not sure I agree on your estimates for the construction timescales, but that's not worth arguing about.

Outer Space, Apparently

Apologies, I took it all from Lexicanum just to make sure I had my facts straight, and it had what you quoted before what I found.

Certainly nobody would be thinking of a full army (at least, I hope they're not ) but even reasoning that the suits can be manufactured is almost unreasonable.

No need to argue, also from Lexicanum, under the Power Armour article - "It can take decades to complete just one of the new Mk VII power armour, so it is often easier to make a spare part for an existing suit than it is to make a completely new one".

If that's how long it takes for a Mk VIII, imagine how long it'd be for an older Mark, if it could even be constructed, of course.

I could see the Iron Hands and Salamanders having the capacity to knock out MK II and III if they wanted to do so . They're the most likely to have old suit models knocking about to reverse-engineer from/cannibalise. They're also the most likely to have the facility to do so, as the Iron Hands know more of machines than anyone else outside the Adeptus/helped to design their own marks back in the days of Heresy, and the Salamanders have their own forgeship, the Chalice of Fire.

As such, I can see the Iron Hands equipping a squad they know will require stealth with MK II helmets, or a Salamander squad heading to a boarding action re-equipping with MK III.

But a special snowflake new chapter? Nahhhh.
