Why would you use Splinter over frag, frag has a 60" range, is str 5, forces pinning checks at -1 ld, and is free. Against marines of the 2+ and 3+ variety frag will wound 4 times as often, which makes it better against 3+ saves than splinter, and just edges out splinter in terms of models dead against 2+/4++ saves. For that ten points I'd get shatter shells, that way I could overwatch and do some admittedly risky anti-vehicle work.

...who mentioned Splinter?
All I saw was talk about Shatter, since this is an anti-tank thread.

Rapiers can't move so venator way better vs flareshielded Spartan. deploy on flank and you should get 1 or two turns into its side as it's rolling to your lines. with rapiers you'd just point the Spartan at them so -1 up. depending your game size it becomes easier to deal with Spartans as you have more sources of anti tank; they cant show flare shields to everything.
I agree with the there are 2 kind of AT in 30k, can and can't kill fllareshielded Spartan. I like the flyer as my heavy support is usually full with other stuff (IW)
Any barrage weapons also work; but the side armour, no flare shields.
I like laser rapiers better than grav; long range. But grav is good vs deep striking leviathans

I was brainstorming some LC lists because I want to paint them because I have a serious collector's addiction (at least I can admit it, I suppose...) and looked at their stats. GROSS.
Triple Haywire shots per model! On a T7 4W FMC with a Flare Shield!? Ouch. Seems like two of these should put down a Spartan reliably. And they can also serve as anti-air units too... sheesh. For a measly 175pt a pop. I'll take six, please!
