When you started 40k, did you buy a lot of models from different armies?  [RSS] Share on facebook Share on Twitter Submit to Reddit

When I started I bought 2 armies.

Eldar for my (then) wife and Tau for me.

Later I tried to start a small Space Marine army as well.

I then traded off the Tau and Space Marines but couldn't get rid of the Eldar as no one wanted them pre-6th Ed. So I ended up playing Eldar. Then I decided I wanted to play an army that wasn't as painting intensive and started Blood Angels. Those are the only two I've played since.

So, short answer, no. I only ever buy for the armies I play. I have bought some Harlies and I might get some DEldar to make Aeldari lists once I have GSII, but I just see those as an extension of my Eldar army.

Git sum grubbing orkz from a couple of assault on black reach sets and some pointy ones from some Dark Vengance sets, could probably get either army up to the 1500-1850 point range.

I only ever collected Eldar, now I have 30.000 points of them.

I may collect something else some day... who knows, but it's been nearly 10 years of just Eldar.

I haven't done this much. I have a pair of Sisters of Battle and Fire Warrior I used to test paint schemes - both turned out pretty nicely but I never got around to collecting the rest of those armies. I also have the Genestealers and Blood Angels Terminators from Space Hulk - but those are their own thing. (I may still end up making the Terminators honorary members of my Deathwing sub-army depending on how DW look in 8th ed.).

For Fantasy, I have a Teclis, a Bretonnian Sorceress and a few other odd models I either picked up for D&D or bought to convert for other armies.

I started with a Space Marine Battleforce, then decided that I really wanted to play Necrons. I built both armies simultaneously, and I now regret buy the SM. I just don't like their middle-of-the-road playstyle. The army is for sale if anyone is interested, btw.
