Edit: Affluenza as defined by a quick Google search: a psychological malaise supposedly affecting wealthy young people, symptoms of which include a lack of motivation, feelings of guilt, and a sense of isolation.

It really sounds like that definition would better fit someone more like me, upper middle class but starting to struggle with academic performance and socialization. Not killing/raping people sounds a little easier than good grades and having healthy friendships. TL;DR it's a bullgak excuse, so is having committed the original crime as a minor, as murder by a minor should be even more disconcerting than by an adult. Wasn't the parole violation done very recently, at an adult age?

Thanks to this Cracked article I learned this kind of thing was common enough in feudal Japan they had a word for "Samurai stabbing slashing up people in the street and we can't do gak about it".

I was referencing the public reaction to the transgressions not the ability of rich people to afford good lawyers that get them reduced charges and sentences. You are correct that the quality of legal counsel increases proportionately with the amount of money spent on legal counsel but that commonality doesn't explain why the public overlooks some instances while getting outraged over similar ones.

Thanks for supporting my point. The vast majority of California's illegal migrants carry on their lives as best they can. Some turn to (or continue to engage in) crime. Again, media will spin this based on their bias.

The article you linked isn't about Cali migrants in prison, though. It's some facile attempt at 'stoopid libruls' from a gak hack "media" outlet. Canada has strong immigration policy, always has. That and the noble Canadian winter keeps us strong.
