This list is terrible. The only good thing to come from GWs metal music connection is the cover of Horus Rising and the dude with the hair. It’s cringeworthy stuff!

Just like the poll results suggest, Bolt Thrower all the way! Pretty much flawless discography with the 4th Crusade and Those Once Loyal as personal favorites.

Another band that comes to mind would be Anaal Nathrakh. On the album Hell Is Empty And All The Devils Are Here there are titles like "Shatter The Empyrean", "Virus Bomb" or "Sanction Extremis" which are probably w40k related. Recommended only if you like abrasive black metal/grindcore...

They're sorta half-inspired (insofar as I remember - we've not talked about it in detail). Dave likes the general background. It doesn't really count as 'singing about', though. At the time of Hell Is Empty... Dave still almost only wrote lyrics for choruses, everything else is just screams.

Sabaton all the way (granted it isn't about 40k, but they fit so well).

Funnily enough listening to a Steel Legion Tribute with Sabaton's Wehrmacht when I found this thread.
So many of their songs fit the themes if not all the specifics. Hell I'd be tempted to make some Winged Hussar themed Space Marines on bikes if I had the time.

If the truth were subjective then the majority would always be right.

I just enjoy D-Rok's terrible cover art.

Forget all the raging screaming lunatics in your nu metal bands. GW have finally realised that no one sane actually listens to people screaming and is putting together some actual music to give a soundtrack to their worlds.

Nu metal is a specific genre and it ain't any of the above.

If you're a fan of Chaos (Khorne in particular), Debauchery is a must. Ironclad Declaration of War in and of itself is amazing.

Stringstorm isn't really a band I guess, but he does some pretty bitchin Warhammer music.

Not a lot of singing in this hard style (?) techno, but I tripped over Omkara Techichi's Dreamonic Vamperor watching a DJ stream recently:

EDIT: Bleh, threadnomancy. This has been at the top of my Dakka front page all summer

Gwar. While not focused solely on 40k, they have some pretty obvious and amazing 40k themed songs. Tormentor and Immortal Corrupter come to mind.

Also, I'm told by a fellow metalhead that Dave Brockie signed his name with a sideways Mark of Khorne. So that's pretty metal.

First time I saw GWAR live (at their first show back in Richmond after the ban!), Balsac was soundchecking out of costume wearing an Armageddon Steel Legion shirt. My heart was immediately won over to the Jaws of Death.

Stringstorm is hands down my favorite for actual 40K songs.

Sabaton, Man O War, and a few others have ones that you can count as being related. Two Steps From Hell ties into anything epic.

Dragonforce, while being totally DnD, could work for Fantasy.

An aside for GWAR. I so miss the Gwar-B-Q. Usually the best weekend of the year.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

I've never heard of any of the others, but Bolt Thrower are awesome.
I first listened to them just a few years after getting into warhammer. It's a shame they had already released their final album just before that.

I generally go for metal that has some clean vocals in it, but quite a few of their songs are classics that never get old.
Aside from the aforementioned Those Once Loyal, Mercenary is also an outstanding cd, and any of the title tracks from Honour, Valour, Pride.

My first and only painting log.

Get out of my way is a classic, and the emperor knows this.

'Awsum' is the highest rating I can give something based on quality. Example: I would call it an 'Awsum' AWS-8Q instead of an 'Awesome'
Yes-Close To The Edge is the best song of all time and I'll virus bomb/PPC anyone who says otherwise
