i've said it before, and i'll say it again, Castrol Superclean.
about 2 weeks ago i started saoking 1 demolisher and 2 chimeras.
yesterday i took them out and used an old toothbrush to remove
what paint wasn't falling off on it's own.
1 thing. if you soak them for an extended period of time like i did,
it will more than likely weaken the glue bonds. which is what i wanted.
the items that were being cleaned look like my 8 yr. old put them together.
anyway, my $.02.

Dettol is amazing! Two hours and the paint was just falling off! Quick rub (not even scrub) with a brush and they were like new. Plus, as it's a disinfectant it's not lethal like brake fluid. I'm a Dettol convert!
Dettol is just a brand name for a general household disinfectant by the way, so you can probably use other supermarket own-brands etc. I'll try some other brands and let you know!

after reading this thread i decided i would give dettol a try. first up i used dettol floor cleaner and discovered that whilst it strips the paint it really isnt effective enough. So the next day i went out and bought some dettol antiseptic disinfectant i needed quite alot to strip my stompa and it isnt cheap. I left it in the dettol for 12 hrs and all the paint had turned to a layer of goo. I thought great its coming off but the actual process of scrubbing the paint off was extremely messy and i discovered that you really need to scrub the model with washing up liquid and a soft brass brush. Id recomend this method only if you need the paint stripping off a rather expensive model due to the price tag for dettol and how really messy it is. But the resin model was in great condition and i tried it on a few gw plastic models and they came out great to.

when using Superclean, i leave the object being cleaned in the soaking tub for how ever long, or until i remember i put them in. then i leave them in the solution while scrubbing them with an old toothbrush. it's soft so it doesn't hurt the plastic. yet rigid enough to take the paint out of cracks. and for God's sake use rubber gloves! it will irritate the hell out of your skin at full strength. i noticed that areas that had thick amounts of paint(Ebay Propainted!!) did turn into a thick Goo, but wipe right off with the brush. to clean off the Superclean, i use a strong dish soap and water mix. i scrub them in this mix again to get the CSc out of the cracks. them i rinse the soap off, and wait for this damn heat to ease up so i can get some painting.... ooops, ranting .

Dettol expensive, Gorkel? Not at all! I just bought 750ml Dettol antiseptic disinfectant for £1.98 in Tesco today ( UK supermarket). It's cheap as hell over here, I can always post you Stateside guys some if you PayPal me the funds! Always happy to help a fellow Dakkaite. This is the stuff you want: http://www.dettol.co.uk/sf_firstaid.shtml#adlStripped an Escher gang yesterday, good as new (anyone want to buy them?). I stripped an old conversion and the Dettol softened the decade-old Milliput which was a shame - maybe wouldn't trust a conversion you're precious about. Not tried it with Greenstuff yet so will let you know On the whole, loving Dettol though, and you can reuse if you fish your model out instead of pouring the Dettol away.

Hi guys, a couple of quick questions to those who've used dettol to remove paint, how long do you soak the models and in what concentration of dettol do you do it?

Go Dettol... finally, a reason to brave that Krispy Kreme stench and visit Tesco's.

Excellent news. I've been wondering what to use in England since most of the advice is for products we don't have or for
brake fluid which I don't fancy using.
Will have to pic some up and get to work on those old mini's

Soak them in simple green for a few days and then wash off. You might need to take a toothbrush to them. It doesn't get off primer very well, but works great on paint.

I stripped my whole marine army with Pine Sol! I diluted it a bit because i couldnt fit all my models under the solution, but full strength is okay. Leave it in for a few hours, but keep checking them to make sure the plastic doesnt go soft and melt. Then use a toothbrush and brush it alll off! It will also melt superglue, and if your plastic glue didnt give a good bond, they might come apart too. It really is great stuff, but you have to get the origional stuff! other scents wont work, i guess its the pine oils that take the paint.
