I thought that giant scar across the galaxy, cadia get blasted to cinders, and the imperium being on the brink of destruction were all results of the 13th crusade. It just took them ten years to write the fluff

10 years to retcon their result to better match the actual result.

I hope they learned their lesson: don't put the big stuff in so you need the results to be one thing or another.
