To be fair, acts of faith are less awesome because they happen to sisters of battle, who aren't all that incredible. It's very powerful though, and weirdly good how front-loaded it is. If you bring Celestine and a unit of seraphim in an imperial army you'll get to use an act of faith on both units most turns.

You see though they are incredible now. They have very cheap models that can bring any kind of shooty they need. They have the stats in shooting of marines so they are hitting and wounding pretty easily. Since they are Imperium they can bring any CC unit's they want to protect those models and since everything in the Sisters is cheap they can bring as much of CC as the person they are fighting can. They are very strong in 8th, don't underestimate their ability.

IMO, Scions are top, ultramarines + rowboat are second, IG conscript screening parking lots are third, Imperial Knight armies are fourth and everyone else is in a pile below that. Scions always get the alpha strike they want and are ludicrously cheap; marines have an extremely powerful shooting contingent; conscripts are too cheap; IK armies are still rock, paper, scissors. I'll be honest, it very much feels like the playtesters like IG a lot more than anyone else.

I'm betting that the top tables at NOVA and the BAO are dominated by Imperium, with Xenos armies crying in a corner. We'll see.

Imperial soup has so many options that it'd be hard not to top be top tier. I am imagining a guilliman shooting line with a scion plasma gun drop in contingent right now.

Are we really not putting orks and nids near the top with the imperial soup?

I can't speak for any play experience but my own, but speaking as an Eldar (not Ynnari) player, my easiest matches have been against IG conscript screening parking lots. I was playing a Saim Hann Eldar list at the time.

I've only had one game so far, 2000 points of my battle sisters vs a carpet of 200+ orks. I thought I was in real trouble because all my melta was going to wasted on boys, but the new faith mechanic, along with Celestine and some very cheap bolters and heavy bolters were ripping through huge chunks of orks at a time. Faith is only reliable for 2 acts per turn, but dear holy Emperor it can be potent. Celestine and the Seraphim can get an easy 1st turn charge and do serious damage, and heavy bolter Retributors can lay down a ton of fire. I wasn't impressed by the Exorcist or the multi melta Immolators, but that was probably more the opponent. Orks are very tough to break through and have about a million attacks in melee, and tankbustas are NASTY. However once I was able to spread him out to negate Mob Rule, his guys started dying in buckets. In 3 turns I killed about 120-150 of his orks and his warboss, captured 3 out of 4 objectives, and scored first blood. I lost 10 Seraphim, 5 Dominions, 10 Sisters, and 2 Immolators. Celestine and the Seraphim took out about 80 of those orks and the warboss by themselves. Watch out for her...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I haven't played with my Imperial Guard yet, but looking at the points and rules for them and Scions, I think they'll be be pretty ridiculous. The amount of heavy and special weapons they can bring is nuts, and compared to my other factions their vehicles didn't get that much more expensive. They can spam command points like nobody else, flood the objectives with dudes, and bring enough BS 3+ plasma guns to nuke a mountain of power armored guys in short order.

After 3 editions in hiding, I think the IG heavy weapons teams are gonna make a big comeback.

Literally half the top-tier, ITC players in our community are cooking up some flavor of this. I've played against it twice (winning once and losing once with my 'Nids) and i'm already bored of seeing suspiciously similar lists. :-p

Booty G is too good of a force multiplier, and Razorbacks and Scions already too points efficient. Smash it all together in a list, and boredom, but success, ensues. :-p

Just like previous editions the parking lot "gunline" armies will start to go away when people start playing Maelstrom as you actually need to move.

Then it will swing back to the mobile armies like Scions, Necrons and anything with drop pods. Maybe Genestealer Cults as the sleeper army.

I play:
40K: Daemons, Tau
AoS: Blades of Khorne, Disciples of Tzeentch
Warmachine: Convergence of Cyriss
Infinity: Haqqislam, Tohaa
Malifaux: Bayou
Star Wars Legion: Republic & Separatists

Guilliman and his parking lot with scions still work. Guilliman is pretty mobile himself, and you have a lot of options to move.

My list isn't exactly the bleeding edge, but with a few tac squads and rhinos, I have a mobile element while Guilliman acts as a multiplier for my shooting base for a few turns before he advances and murders some fool.

I definitely agree that scions are strong. They changed from zero to hero overnight. My 7th edition army of scions just added a baneblade and 4 assassins for support because they got a lot cheaper and vehicles aren't good for transport compared to their deep strike anyway. My orks have been doing well too. Ive only played against necrons with them though. Orks in this area have been doing pretty well though.

My Armies:
Orks about 15000-16000 mostly unpainted but slowly being worked on
Militarum Tempestus about 2000 points just built
Inquisition about 2000 points unpainted
Officio Assassinorum 570 unpainted

All anecdotal evidence here, but Tau drone/commander spam is incredibly potent. The ability to deep strike in meltas or anti-infantry combined with shrugging off drones and bubble wrapping commanders is very potent.

Drones definitely have a lot of potential as a screening unit. 8 points per model is a little steep for cannon fodder, but it *is* cheaper than fire warriors, and being T4 with a 4+ save makes them a relatively sturdy screen and savior protocols mean that they can provide ablative wounds to any non-vehicle unit in their army.

I think Tau might start finding their footing once they get a good number of drones painted, they'll be able to field very offensively-focused glass cannon units, and just use drones to give them ablative armor.

The change in 8th Esition that's had the biggest effect on the meta so far has been the change to standard point values for competitive games. 2000 is the new 1750/1850, 1500 is for slightly smaller games, and 1000 is the minimum size for games to be balanced. Lots of stuff got more expensive, and things generally die quicker in 8th than before. Except for vehicles, but they needed that buff.

Out of curiosity, how many Razorbacks can you fit into a Guilliman parking lot at 2000 points?

As someone that played 30 of them and was able to kill 90+ gants, they are good, but there is word going around the point cost was a miss print and they are suppose to be 14ppm

I confirm too that sisters of battle are amazing in 8th ed. I had 3 squads of khorne berserkers (equipped for close combat), plus 3 squads of cultists and one Hellbrute. The entire lot fought 3 units of sisters and Celestine over a few rounds.

When the dust cleared. my guys were all dead. All three sister units were dead too but Celestine was still standing and healing back more each round. She hadn't even died once or needed to use her resurrect ability.

The most jaw dropping skirmish that happened. My hellbrute charged a sisters unit, did 8 close combat attacks, and got them all saved (he made all their invul saves). His unit then proceeded to destroy my hellbrute with one round of infernus, pistol shooting. @_@

GSC. Are the red headed stepchild right now.

Decent psychic powers, but other than that they got the shaft.

Only way you'll see them is as a bridge for Nid/guard lists

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts
