Literally insane. It's a very nice and relatively cheap standalone detachment, and they can almost always cult ambush into range the turn they come in

I think that Hormagants are too bad in damage dealing per point. Genestealers are much better for this.

Hormagants are cheaper bullet sponges. Whether it's in close combat or vs shooting, they'll absorb more hits than the same points of genestealers because they're cheaper. The numbers for their offensive output aren't as impressive as the stealers but what is? The biggest thing for them is the 6" pile and 6" consolidate. They can move one FOOT after they complete their charge move. Think about all the units they could tie up.

I also like their consolidation shenanigans. But they cannot get closer than into base contact, which will often limit their move to less than 6 inch. Also because they have to end closer to the closest enemy model.
The problem with tying up multiple units is that they die so quickly. Unless you tie up Fire Warriors, the Hormagants might very well die in one turn of melee from 3-4 enemy units.

I am not convinced they are necessary, since I find Gargoyles much better for their job!

I can say from 11 battles in 8th that a swarm of blades will definitely work if this blades are on genestealers. Look above at the list ill be bringing to a tournament this month (Im also disregarding flyers because there's just nothing reliable we can do against it. Ive got some zoans for the smite and they'll be sitting next to a malanthrope so it helps but I don't expect to win against flyer spam, just everything else
