The point is you cannot expect players to search through videos on a different PR website from the one that hosts the actual rules to find a ruling. You also cannot expect every person you play with to have sat around watching GW PR videos and expect their knowledge of those videos content to have the same clarity or carry the same weight as a document on a website that you could print out and bring to the game with your rule book.

If it's not in the official documents and it's not in the rule books then it doesn't exist.

It really doesn't matter if random opponents are up on what's happening in the game or not. I can admit that a GW Facebook post is a little shaky as far as tournament level rules justification (but for anything else, clearly that's what GW is saying will be put into FAQ/errata).

When the errata article itself mentions something that easily could have been in the document on that same page....there's absolutely no argument against 1ksons being able to use the new hereticus powers. It was a weak RAW argument to being with, and I can totally see GW not putting it in that version of the document because that was most likely set before the book came out.

Anyone can say "well this is what dakka says are rules sources" and stick their heads in the sand. But tbh that is completely asinine. I couldn't care less which way they ruled this particular "issue" (and I own Magnus). He's very good without those powers. And I actually had expected them to rule it the other way FWIW. But in light of the article, I would absolutely refuse to play someone who tried to pull that legalistic nonsense on me unless a TO decided that they wanted to rule it the other way. Like honestly just play the game and get on with your life.

I'd like to remind people that the whole point of YMDC is to try and figure out what GW intends as far as how we are supposed to play certain aspects of the game. That verdict has been unequivocally reached in this case, regardless of whether or not you like how they decided to disseminate their information. Anyone wanting to rules lawyer some more just for kicks is welcome to, but this matter has already been put to bed.

and SW and BA use the Codex for generic units and point costs as the Codex Datasheet and point table overrides the Index one

for TS this is not much but a cheaper Hades Forgefiend or Defiler is still nice

If SW and BA use the Coodex for generic units and point costs as the Codex Datasheet, then how come GW said that people playing the variant SM chapters that don't have their own book don't have to buy the Codex?

you don't need to buy the Codex, because you don't need to use the generic units
and GW also say that Thousand Sons don't need to buy the Codex CSM and use the new Dark Heretics power (but you can if you want to)

It's pretty obvious GW wants Thousand Sons players to be able to use the new Dark Hereticus powers in the Codex until their own codex comes out, it says so right there in the errata article on the community website.

If we're talking about a tournament, it might not be so black and white, but for a friendly game why wouldn't you be able to? Talk it out with your opponent, show him/her the article and make a decision.

Alpharius? Never heard of him.

No, it is more about that GW always claim in articles about 8th that "you don't need to buy" anything.

you don't need to get the rulebook because the core rules are free
you don't need to buy the Index or a Codex because rules for units are in the box
you don't need to buy the Codex for new matched play points because you can play narrative with power levels
etc

just because they claim that you don't need to buy something doesn't mean anything because to have all the rules for matched play you need the Rulebook, Index and Codex.
they just claim that you don't need to play matched play and therefore don't need to buy stuff

it is very clever marketing, as they know most are playing matched play with points and want to use the latest datasheets and having all options available no matter if there is a model for it, and now they say everything is optional and they don't force you to replace the Index with the Codex.
