Formal charges brought against Madsen.
They are adding Sexual Assault Without Intercourse to the list of charges.

Madsen's trial began a week ago today.
Verdict expected 25 April, barring complications.

The trial continues - a few gems:
Madsen claims Wall died in an accident onboard his homemade submarine, when the pressure dropped in the submarine’s interior, flooding it with toxic exhaust fumes. He admits, however, to dismembering her body, claiming it was the only way he could pull it from the vessel.
“What do you do when you have a big problem? You divide it into something smaller,” Peter Madsen answered when psychiatrists asked about his decision to cut off Wall’s head, arms and legs.
He compared his preparations for the act to the Battle of Trafalgar, and argued that “a dead body does not deserve any special respect”.
In the assessments read out on Thursday, the psychiatrists draw attention to Madsen’s belief, expressed in their interviews with him, that it would not be any more painful for Wall’s family to receive her body in five separate pieces.
The court heard from Ditte Dyreborg, a veteran submariner in the Danish navy, who disputed Madsen’s claim that Wall was killed by toxic fumes. She argued that no traces of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide or nitrogen oxide had been found in the submarine when it was tested.
The coroner said Wall’s lungs had shown no sign of heat damage or traces of exhaust gases, as would be expected if she had died from inhaling exhaust fumes.
I see that Madsen's story has changed... Again.

The psychiatrists have recommended that Madsen be held in “safe custody”, as his “narcissistic and psychopathic traits” make him a
continuing danger to others. Their report adds that Madsen showed “a severe lack of empathy and remorse”, and was “extremely untrustworthy” and a “pathological” liar.
Sounds about right. Surprising he kept it suppressed for so long it seems for now.

Presumably he also had to dismember her to get her into the sub in the first place, right? Right?

Well he has been given life without parole, best outcome. He is going to appeal though.

With very little chance of the appeal succeeding.
His ever changing stories did not help his case in the least.
I think he may end as one of the lucky few who do serve their entire sentence in Denmark. Most are out within 16 years. (Denmark focuses more on rehabilitation, not punishment.)

Yeah its the same for most European countries that life doesn't mean life but more of a 20-25 year sentence with usually a chance at parole.
His psych evalution says it all though, no remorse, no emotion. If he would ever get out he would likely do it again. This is one of the few cases where you never get out.

Lieing multiple times?
multi shifting stories, no emotions at his brutal crimes. no apartment reason.
If the doctors think he is a danger if ever released, im pretty sure you can have someone locked up for lfe/confined to a secure hospital ward.
Rehab is one thing. some people cannot be saved.

I kind of think that Madsen had a script in his head - one that depended entirely on never being a suspect.
As soon as the case went off script, and he had to improvise, everything fell apart for him.
So he had to keep changing his story, accounting for each new piece of evidence against him, and throwing away his old story - never stopping to reflect that his ever changing story was, itself, part of the case against him.
