In the early and mid-19th century a doomsday sect formed up around the ideal that biblical prophecy said the world was going to end on Oct 22nd, 1844. The world didn't end, in an event they call 'the Big Disappointment'. Plenty of members wandered off but the rest reformed in to what is now known as the Seventh Day Adventists.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

So it turns out this will be the 69th end of the world event in my lifetime. giggity. With all the rapture predictions, it's fun to think, "what if it actually happened, just no one noticed, because they weren't picked"

Alright, here's my take on this: It's probably not gonna happen, but I'd be lying if I said i wasn't a bit concerned myself. Here's why I am concerned: Our 3 Cat 4 Hurricanes making US Landfalls (Harvey, Irma, and Maria) The recent Magnitude 7.1 Earthquake that hit Mexico.

The End of the World happens every moment, since we are constantly being delivered into alternate string realities of varying probablitilies. Therefore, the timelines we are not in are constantly ending.
Therefore, somewhere on Earth 2 the world is ending but here on Earth 1 everything is fine. Blame the Quantums.

All those events killed a few hundred people in total. I wasn't worried the world was about to end back in 2004 when a Tsunami caused by a magnitude 9+ quake wiped out a quarter of a million.

Seriously - I never understood playing the numerology game with the bible. You are using a book that calls numerology a failure to base your numerlogical predictions on. At least Nostradamus had a good opinion of numerology and his book has just as many numbers and doomsday stuff in it.

The end of the world doesn't have to start in North America you know, that's only in the movies.

Seriously though, if its blatantly written in the bible that only God knows when the world will end, and he isn't saying, why do "Christians" keep coming up with this stuff?
SIDE NOTE: The quotes is not an attack on religion, or Christians. But weirdos keep using it as their platform for acceptance, so it needs to be there.
Christians do a lot of things that are spelled out as no- nos in the Bible. Even ministers.

I remember reading something about the the Black Death, and thinking that if there was ever a time when a belief in the imminent end of the world was justified, it was then. The fourteenth century was a really bad time to be European.

The funniest thing is, it's like, a planet. Those are KINDA hard to miss and can't really sneak up on you. We can see one 588 MILLION kilometers away with the naked eye, much less the with optical devices invented millennia ago, not to mention modern technology.
